Sturdy-feeling and awesome
This holds up my heavy and large law casebooks without a problem. The other reviewers are correct that you have to lift up the book to turn the pages which is pretty annoying. I've found that, depending on the book and my place in it, I can just put the book in front of the page holders to avoid the problem. If I'm towards the center of a book and it's titled at least as far back as the product picture shows my casebooks (large hardback books with relatively thin pages) stay open just fine. Once I move towards the beginning or end of one of those books, or if I am reading a paperback, I have to use the page holders. It's not *too* annoying, and it's definitely worth not having to hunch over my desk like some kind of arcane wizard. If I'm going to pretend to be an arcane wizard I want to be doing something way cooler than desk-hunching. I've been using this book holder for a couple of weeks now and I've been really happy with it. It's easy to adjust with a little lever in the back, and when I'm done using it I can fold it all the way down to get it mostly out of the way. It still takes up a bit of space on the desk when folded down but it's not too bad. This is so much better than all the wire ones I've seen in use. Update: I let a fellow student use this for a day, and now he's in love with it as well. The page hold-downs were the clincher for him.

Must-have item for (grad) students
This is one of those things I bought on a whim but it turned out to be one of my best school-related purchases! I ordered this in the midst of writing yet another paper for grad school to hold a bunch of books I'm citing out of, and it's absolutely fantastic for that. I wouldn't say it's super sturdy but it's definitely constructed well enough to hold large, heavy books. The plastic grips securing the pages are adjustable so they can accommodate thick books as well. It also tilts so you can position it however you need it. I'm currently sitting on my couch with my laptop, and I have my book sitting on the armrest of the couch, which allows me to be comfy and productive... I don't have to interrupt my typing, put my computer to the side, hold my book, flip through the pages, read, remember, and then go back to typing. Yayyy! I would highly recommend this product to students, researchers, or anyone that does a lot of reading and writing. I am actually kind of upset I didn't discover this until my 3rd year in grad school...!

Great product
This was a great purchase. All of my classes this term had books in loose-leaf form, which meant I had to put them in binders. Generally when I'm reading I sit on the couch with the book in my lap, but the binders were just too big for that. This stand holds them very well. It is really easy to adjust to the angle required, and there are a lot of settings so it's easy to get it just right. Very sturdy. The page holding arms work fairly well and are easy to adjust as well. The only thing that causes me any issue is that the bottom portion of the stand that the book actually sits on doesn't adjust in any way. I'm sure it's better that way and makes it more sturdy, just makes it tough fitting it in my backpack with 2 huge binders since that part sticks out. I've had this for about 6 weeks, using it almost daily and changing the angle adjustment at least a few times a day for travel or storage, and haven't noticed any problems yet, but will update if I have any issues.

Holds books well - annoying to carry around
This is a good book stand. Its not bad, but its not great. It was the cheapest I found on Amazon, which is why I chose it. In retrospect, I kinda wish I went for a fancier wooden one. It holds any size book really well, giant and super heavy (like Robbins Pathology) or small, light, paperback. The hinge is adjustable to many angles, which is pretty cool. The arms that hold the pages also adjust to any angle and can hold down pages tight, so they don't flop around, but the bad thing about them is that you kinda have to manipulate the pages carefully through them while turning the pages - this can get pretty annoying, especially with a textbook if you're flipping back and forth between pages. Lastly, I wish the little ledge thing on the bottom would fold down. The fact that its solid makes it take much more space in my bookbag than others might, and I end up carrying it separately. Its not so bad as to give it three stars, because it does what its set out to do quite well, but four stars seems like praise, and I don't think thats justified either. In all, if you plan on keeping this in one place (eg. at home, in your locker at school, at your office desk) this will probably suit your needs. Otherwise, invest a few more dollars and get something you won't have anything to gripe over for.

My Favorite Multipurpose Book/Tablet Stand
I bought this for the primary purpose of holding my Samsung Galaxy S2 Tab Nook tablet in both the portrait and landscape modes. I had previously bought the Amazon Basics Adjustable Tablet Stand for this purpose, but there was not enough support on the back of the tablet for me to use the upper left and right parts of the touch screen in either portrait or landscape form without it wobbling. AmazonBasics Adjustable Tablet Stand The Amazon stand did, however, work fine for just viewing or reading. It also worked well with some games that I play, that this Actto stand won't work with. However, this Actto Portable Reading Stand works quite well when I am tapping or swiping, on the screen. It's solidly built and provides all the support I need to use the tablet either in portrait or landscape mode. The lip of the stand is wide enough for my tablet in it's MoKo EVA Shock Proof case. MoKo Tab S2 8.0 Case - EVA Kids Shock Proof Convertible Handle Light Weight Super Protective Stand Cover Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 / S2 Nook 8.0 Tablet, GREEN Other stands for the purpose of holding tablets just didn't have a wide enough lip for my tablet with it's case. However, I also got this Actto stand for actually reading real books too! It works great with almost any size book that I want to read. The arms that hold the pages open can be moved so you can turn the pages. You can also adjust the stand so you can read at an angle that is comfortable for you. There are non-skid bands on the back supporting arms and also on the arms that hold the pages down so there is no slipping. The stand when folded up could be put in a backpack but it would not be able to fit in the Ibagbar Durable Vintage Multifunction Canvas Shoulder Bag Business Messenger Bag Ipad Bag Tote Bag Satchel Bag for Men and Women Black messenger bag that my tablet with the MoKo EVA Shock Proof case can fit in. If I wanted to take a stand with me to use, I'd probably take the AmazonBasics Adjustable Tablet Stand because it can fold up easily and fit in small spaces in the messenger bag. I am very happy with the Actto stand. It can be moved easily from place to place with the tablet or book safely on it. It is a good multipurpose book/tablet stand although I'm sure the developer did not have tablets in mind when it was created! It is sturdy, made of what looks like a high impact plastic that allows for a slight flexibility, meaning that it won't break as easily as a ridged plastic would. For my purposes, it's the ideal stand.

Very nice. Been using it for years.
I've used this for 8 and 1/2 years. It's been fine. That is until I sat on it and broke the back of it. It's actually still usable, but I'm getting a new one. I looked through a whole bunch of other ones and just decided to get this same one again. A photo you see I took this very minute.

Flexible, sturdy design that works well
For the price point, the Actto Green Portable Reading Stand does an effective job of holding reading materials. I appreciate how it handles fairly heavy books, at a convenient angle that you can select. Two swivels near the bottom keep pages from slipping. The stand performs reasonably effectively with a fairly massive 1250-page monograph such as Douglas A. Campbell's *The Deliverance of God* (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 2009), which has 240 pages of notes prior to the indices. You might want to be aware that unabridged dictionaries, e.g., *The Random House Dictionary of the English Language*, second edition unabridged (1987), are too thick for the page holders. They accommodate up to 2.5 inches per side. I also like the way the robust plastic stand folds compactly, so you could easily carry it in a backpack for use at a library. You can purchase a floor stand that holds a book or tablet with even greater flexibility, particularly for reading in bed or at a recliner; price for better models is close to $250. When you are working at a desk or table, Actto Green Portable Reading Stand is cost effective for what it quite decently provides.

If you're a student, this is a necessity.
I just started my first quarter of college and I didn't even think about getting something like this. I had made my list of supplies I needed and purchased everything, but a reading stand, because the thought didn't even cross my mind. One week into classes and I was already having serious neck pain from trying to lean down and stare at text books while making detailed notes on my computer. I couldn't handle this and it had to change quickly, so I turned to my faithful companion Amazon and the many fantastic reviewers that led me to this product. I purchased this Book stand and I have to say out of all the things I bought to make sure school would go smoothly, this is the best thing and has made taking notes unbelievably easy. So far it's done a good job holding books big and small, from the novel I wanted to quote in my English class to my large Psychology text book. The little handles can be adjusted to pretty much hold any book in place and the lever on the back will allow you to adjust the exact angle the book is held at. Bottom line, this is something that needs to be at the very top of your college purchases, you absolutely will NOT regret it. The picture I've added is just to show you how big of a textbook I've tried with it so far. It can hold books that are much smaller, I was just using it to quote from "Metamorphoses" and "Fahrenheit 451" if that helps with size. If you need something not related to novels for school, It held up a book half the size of the "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". I'm thinking about getting another to put in the kitchen for when I'm looking at recipe books.

Light and sturdy
I found Its multiple angles very useful in changing into different reading (books) positions for reducing the strain on the neck and back โ wish I have noticed it earlier.

This book stand is a fantastic way to take notes while reading
This book stand is a fantastic way to take notes while reading. It is also very good for keeping your neck at a more neutral position. The plastic seems to be a slightly darker blue than pictured. The back only has one adjustment on it with a clip to hold it in place. This adjustable foot allows you to angle the stand at whatever angle works best for you from standing upright to laying almost completely flat. There are plastic orange rings on the foot to keep the stand from sliding. The adjustable bar at the back also allows for easier storage. There is a slight curve to the back of this book stand which seems to help hold the book in a little more of a natural way instead of bending the spine of the book flat. As far as holding the book pages in place there are clear plastic L shaped holders that pivot to accommodate the book. When they are closest to the center they are the farthest from the stand; to hold the book pages in place you slide them towards the outside of the sand and they pivot closer to the pages of the book. These also have orange plastic rings to keep them from sliding towards the center while they are holding open the book. They do not fold down as one other review pointed out, but I have found that it is easy enough to slide them toward the center slightly so that there is some leeway between the holders and the book pages and then simply untuck the page from one side and tuck it into the other side while you are reading. These plastic holders also have rounded tops so they will not dig into your book or damage the pages. I use the stand to read university textbooks and it holds all of them well so far. It is a little pricy for what you get, but it is a good thing to have around if you do a lot of reading. I would recommend this product.
