This book is a companion to the highly successful BBC series, "Yes Minister." Review: Comic masterpiece - I have finished reading this wonderful book for the umpteenth time.It never grows old.The stories, the characters, the language expressed are all of the highest order. It's based on the original BBC scripts but fleshed out appropriately. And it's funny.Very funny. And an eyeopener to how things in British government were really done(still?) For anyone who loved the original show or for people who love an intelligent, witty read. Review: Outstanding - Amazingly written. Must read. An example of why British comedy rocks. Have seen the tv series ages ago and reading this book brought the entire story to life all over again.

Extremely humorous
Great reading. Amazing insight into British bureaucracy and brilliant play on words. The tongue in cheek humour is quite good

Fun to read but contains only content from the episodes
This book was compiled at a time when the series was not available for immediate re-watching. It mainly just includes what is in the episodes -- there is very little other content.

Hilarious.....Every time you read it.
I first read it some 20 years ago and have had a copy ever since. Switched to the kindle version now. A masterpiece!!

This and the Complete Yes Prime Minister are awesome examples of how great writing transcends medium
This and the Complete Yes Prime Minister are awesome examples of how great writing transcends medium. You might think, "There's no way they can duplicate the wittiness, speed and thought process of the TV show in a book"--but they do! And at times it's even BETTER than the show in writing. The only very minor gripe I have is the constant intercession by the authors with "1 - in conversation with the editors" footnotes. Most of the footnotes are helpful; these are unnecessary.

excellent
A fantastic book to complement one of the best written television shows in history . Worthy addition to collection. Not much has changed in politics and government in the last fifty years

Excellent entertaining book. Must read,
Excellent and entertaining book as were the TV series. The inner workings of the government and civil service are refreshingly entertaining. The quotes marvellously entertaining. The issues of the day and the workings of our good government perhaps are as relevant today as they were during those days. Immensely entertaining book overall. I just cannot but laugh aloud on reading literally every single page. An exquisitely fine refuge from the political chaos of these days and an escape from the stresses of life- like a fine vacation to an exotic place. PS: This book is a good guide which helps me deal with management failures! When I feel helpless in changing things the book reminds and reassures me that I am not alone. It's the marvellously complex systems we created over time which we need to understand.

Yes Minister.
An exceptionally well written book. It gives much greater depth than the TV series could have ever provided, and it is still funny.

The book that made me want to be a civil servant
My father got me this book from the British library when I was a kid. I read both yes minister and yes prime minister in one sitting back to back and loved it back then itself. It is full of funny situations between poor Minister Hacker and his Permanent Secretary Sir Appleby. It has an in-depth look at how the civil service works within the government and what ACTUALLY they do or more like DONT do. Growing up I wanted to be a civil servant myself due to this book. No I didn't not become a civil servant bcoz that means studying a lot, which is displayed by how educated Sir Appleby is too and how smart and clever his actions are in subverting topics and objectives. This is a must read for anyone who loves to have a laugh riot. I have seen it's series as well, which I would recommend too. I bought this book finally from here to reread it and see if I find it still funny and yes it's still funny to this day. Quality work always retains its quality no matter the time that has passed.
