Looks good, works good, should last with proper care.
Update: May 2017. See the comment posted below. I was unaware that the mills would disassemble from the base. If I had known this, I would have gladly given the product 5 stars, so I've changed the rating. I've left the original review below because I do believe, given enough time and use, the mills would need to be taken apart to be cleaned. Use care with the threaded view windows. Other than that, these are good, solid grinder mills. I've been using mine for more than half a year now with no issues. Highly recommended! And a special thanks to the company for posting their comments. A handsome and impressive pair. The stainless steel finish looks good and is easy to clean. With grinders this small, there are always sacrifices. For starters, they're not adjustable, but what comes out is neither too coarse or too fine. And the salt mill seems to drop a little more than the pepper mill. My biggest concern is longevity. The way to refill these is to unscrew the bottom half from the clear acrylic center. Not a problem in or of itself, but if the threads on the acrylic part ever get 'boogered up' or stripped, these mills will be useless. I would advise anyone who has these to exercise EXTREME care when refilling and re-attaching the base. To me, this is a set to put aside for special occasions...those intimate dinners for two, to 'wow' your friends or guests, or to keep on the bar for making those spicy Bloody Mary drinks. But for everyday use? No, I'll still fall back on traditional shakers. That's not to say I believe these mills are fragile, but I don't see them practical for everyday use or for cooks who depend on precise measurements.

Striking design, one handed operation Salt & Pepper grinders.
We first saw these grinders in the restaurant of the Stage 12 Hotel in Innsbruck, Austria last fall. We were struck by the design and one-handed operation. We were guests of the Hotel at the time, and tried to buy a set from them. We were told that the grinders were "special made" for them, and they had only enough for their requirements. We looked in all the shops during the rest of our trip through Europe for something similar - to no avail. Imagine my surprise when I ran across these (months later) on the internet -- made by a company in Vail, Colorado, and apparently copied by some others...โฆ But these are the solid stainless steel ones like we had seen, and match the picture that I had taken of the original ones exactly. Totally happy to have found them here in the US! My ONLY concern with them is that they can be a bit hard to push. If you don't have good thumb strength, you may have difficulty using them one-handed -- but you can always revert to using both hands!

Pricey, Silly Stand, But They Work
So we've had these for a few days now. One thing is that these are pretty ridiculously expensive for what they are. I'm sure they're soooo much better than the fakes out there selling for less than half of what these cost, sure, but $20 for each grinder seems like a bit much. I'm hoping they hold up and last years, which is not something I can comment about after just a few days. If they do, maybe they're worth it. If they don't, then I'm a sucker and should've bought the knock-offs for $17. A bit hard to operate one handed unless you have a strong thumb. I don't have many issues but my smaller wife does with these sometimes. Not adjustable: if you don't like the grind they put out, send 'em back and get something else. I'm fine with it and have usually found the adjustable grinders to adjust themselves one way or the other without human assistance far too easily. The "free salt and pepper" aren't enough to fill either, so I'm not sure why they bothered. The also much-lauded stand is the main reason I'm knocking a star off on this review: it's ridiculous. The idea of these (to me) is to be one-handed while cooking -- you may have a hand busy stirring or something. However, the holes in the stands are so tight that you have to hold the stand down with one hand to get the grinder out with the other. Looks nice, sure, but the holes could be a tad larger to make removal and replacement easier -- I guarantee if you go look at them on my counter right now they're not even because one isn't fully in its hole. Planning on chucking that soon and using a plate or ramekin or something that works better.

Love! Beautiful, functional, but you'll need a little strength to operate.
I love these grinders. I love the look, and the functionality, especially the broad circular pattern of coverage the salt/pepper falls in. The salt grinder can get a little hard to push sometimes, but I discovered a little trick for getting even less salt than a full push: simply baby it, pushing it every so slightly, and just a little salt comes out, even though it might feel stuck. Your mileage may vary depending on how the salt crystals fall/align in your grinder. Overall, they're great! Note: For some reason, mine came without the stand, or the box. I contacted Amazon customer support and asked if they could just send me the missing piece, and the person said they had no option in their computer to do this, and said I would need to return it, and then buy it again. Feeling like this was a waste of shipping money (even though Amazon is paying for it), I reluctantly agreed. Within a few hours of this, I received an email from Grind Gourmet, asking if everything was okay, since I was returning it (I hadn't even shipped it yet). I told them I loved the grinders, but they didn't come with the stand shown. They were shocked and very concerned. I said I would love to keep my order, and asked if they could simply mail me the missing stand. They said of course, and had it to me within a few days. I love the whole set. GREAT customer service from Grind Gourmet, and Amazon needs to figure out a better way of handling issues like this.

Super impressed!
My plastic pepper mill I bought from the spice section of Smart & Final 3 years ago finally died. The adjustable grinder snapped and threw up a pile of jagged, half cracked pepper kernels. I've been meaning to get a real set of salt & pepper grinders, and decided that this was a sign. These Vic Firth's definitely caught my eye. Pump & Grind? I was intrigued. Reading through the reviews it seemed everyone was very satisfied with their grinders, except for the issue of not being adjustable. I was deterred at first, but decided it couldn't possibly be that bad. I love pepper, and I use salt pretty sparingly as is, so I wasn't too worried and went for it. The pepper ground up into mostly small bits/flakes with some smaller particles. The salt came out consistently fine with some small bits. Pumping the salt is much easier than the pepper, the pepper feels crunchy. You definitely get more salt than pepper per pump. The grinding mechanism underneath is all metal so I don't think I have to worry about these breaking, and even if they did, they come with a lifetime warranty. Keep in mind this review is based on the salt and pepper that came with the grinder. I don't mind the small size, I actually like it. They're about 6 inches tall, a little shorter than the length of my hand, and slim with a nice weight. The last thing I want to worry about in the kitchen is having my s & p topple over. It's easy enough to use with one hand without being a burden or interference. I would definitely buy these again and would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone.

Stylish, fun and useful
I saw these at my sister-in-law's house and fell in love with them so I had to get my own. They are sleek, solidly made and easy to use. It does take significant effort to depress the plunger with really coarse salt, but I honestly don't use salt very often so that's not a problem for me. It would probably be difficult for someone with arthritis or, I don't know, Brittle Thumb Syndrome. The one-handed operation is very handy for small amounts when cooking. I still use the full-sized pepper mill for larger amounts, but these are my go-to mills. Some reviewers feel the size is too small, but I think if they were much larger the angle of the thumb would make them hard to operate. As is they feel comfortable in my hand. Refilling is easy and the convenient, simple stand keeps them upright and looking good. The packaging is attractive and high quality, which would make them a good gift. Or, just keep them for yourself.

Too small. WAYY too small for $50.
Absolutely TINY! We would be filling these things up twice a week. Also, very uneven grind. Sent back on the first day. Nice build quality tho, nice and sturdy.

Exactly what I expected and wanted
It came in amazing time, only took a couple of days, and was so surprised. Paid so much less than what it is in the stores. A pair for $35 they were $25 each at a popular specialty store. They are exactly how described and work perfectly. Now don't be surprised how small they are. It says the size. But a little goes a long way. I am so happy with them. You just push the button on top and the salt or pepper is perfect every-time. It does not have the feature that you can make it courser or finer. At first I thought I would miss that, but I really don't. Maybe the convenience of the one push of a button and that you only have to use one hand makes up for it. They are more for your dinner table than using by your stove, it really is to just add flavor than for using it for cooking. They are very attractive and will be a nice touch to any table.

A Little Bit Hard to Use
I like the look of these and the quality so far seems adequate. My only complaint is the mechanisms for grinding the salt and pepper are quite stiff so it takes more work than I expected to use them. Definetely ok for the dinner table but not when you're preparing food and want to quickly add salt and pepper. It takes too long to get the amount of S&P needed for most recipes.
