Finally, my favorite jaggery
I'm not Indian but I love to cook Indian food and I make chai from scratch every day. I've tried several brands of organic jaggery, and some non-organic, and based on reviews there always seems to be some doubt as to whether they're actually pure or not. Mostly I've used the powdered type, but now that I've found this one I'm very happy with it and I've re-ordered several times. It's delicious and seems to me to be the authentic texture of jaggery. It's really easy to break off pieces with the end of a butter knife. I wish the price were lower but I've been willing to pay it to know I'm getting the real deal with no added chemicals.

This is the best jaggery I have ever had
This is the best jaggery I have ever had. very sweet so little is more than enough. Satisfies sweet tooth without harmful stuff. Goes well with everything I use it in my teas, puddings, all traditional indian sweets as well as in baking cookies etc. Update April 2017 : As much as I love this jaggery, I hate its packaging. Seriously It is health hazard. Broken plastics pieces engrossed inside jaggery. It happened once last year and amazon returned my money and I forgot about it . but this time I had to share it . Outside cardboard box is safe no sign of damage but inside plastic box is damaged and since it is brittle plastic it breaks so easily and sticks to sticky jaggery. I love this jaggery and would love to buy it again when packaging gets safe.

well packaged, ridiculously so
if only Amazon would package computer hard drives ( which actually require shock protection ) as well as this slab of sugar was packaged. inside amazon carton was another carton, custom sized for the slab of sugar and inside that one was a plastic bag, vacuum sealed, inside of which another plastic bag and inside of which a plastic container, also custom sized ... no, i'm not kidding. i haven't seen so much packaging on a $300 glass bong shipped internationally. anyway, as for the sugar itself it tastes fruity. i haven't expected such intense fruitiness ... tastes more like condensed apple juice than sugar. on the one hand it is telling me that this product is significantly different in nutrition value from regular sugar, which is good. on the other hand it may be impossible to use as a direct replacement for sugar in certain recipes because it has a taste of its own. tomorrow i'm supposed to receive some coconut sugar. it should be interesting to compare the taste of the two. i will note that this product doesn't appear to be as sweet as sugar, or even as sweet as honey - it is very sweet for sure, but probably only about half as sweet as sugar. that's not a bad thing - but something to keep in mind. the product did have USDA organic label on it, so that's reassuring.

Wonderful product
I used this sugar for making water kefir. It was excellent for my kefir grains due to the mineral content of the jaggery. The grains doubled in size every batch and it fermented much quicker, even on the second ferment. This was my first time using this type of sugar. The instructions say to grate the block of sugar. Learn from my mistake. DON'T grate it with the food processor. This was a disaster. It turned the jaggery into a thick caramel consistency and it gummed up my machine. If you're going to grate the sugar, only do it by hand. One last thing to consider is that this product is unrefined, so it tastes and smells strong of molasses.

Good and tasty may be, but think before ordering....
The jaggery quality is good. It's very tasty also. Sometimes I get a piece of plastic in jaggery as this could be from the plastic box that jaggery is wrapped. So dear company, just be mindful when you are wrapping coz plastic bits are very sharp. Updated Review – September 17, 2025 After initially finding the taste and quality of this jaggery good, I began ordering more. However, my recent experience has been extremely disappointing. In my latest order, I received two boxes of completely liquefied jaggery. I had to freeze them immediately just to prevent further mess. The attached photos show the condition after freezing: you can still see jaggery stuck to the box and lid. If you’re okay accepting this kind of mess in the name of “good taste” or “quality,” go ahead. But for me, this is not worth the money. In my first review, I had already pointed out finding plastic pieces in the jaggery. Clearly, the company hasn’t taken any steps to improve, they show zero care for customer feedback and their packaging is completely inadequate... I’m seriously concerned about the potential health hazards from microplastics and now feel uneasy using this jaggery at all. Dear Careless company, Thanks for the mess. Going forward, I’ll think 100 times before ordering again or trusting this product with my money...

perfect flavor
Came in perfect condition. It has the best flavor of all the gud, I have consumed so far. I am a grand daughter of a farmer; I have seen gud making at farm. The reason, this organic gud is soft bcz of lack of baking soda. Baking soda gives gud firmness and shape. If you want pure organic gud, it will be soft and best tasting. Soft gud will melt in a really hot weather but it is still good. Back in India, in Punjab, heat is like 110- 117 in summer time and I always saw little melt in gud and it was o.k. to consume.

Good quality and delicious - tastes like home but no nutrients
Pure Gurh must not cost as much as this. But- price aside- gurh is high quality and delicious! Updating and reducing star rating because I re read nutrition facts on pure Gurh. Gurh or Jaggery is naturally suppose to be rich in iron and calcium along with several other minerals. Why is it that your Gurh is stripped of all the nutrients that actually make it a healthy sugar. Curious.
