does device need to be plugged in charger the whole time for it to work? tried charging mine but once off the USB it does not work

Yes, it is a power cable, instead of a charging cable. The intercoms device need to be plugged in charger the whole time for it to work

Are you able to set the intercoms to only light up when receiving a call request with no sounds in case the other person is with customer or phone?

Mine does NOT have a sound or volume button
