AT2020USB+ Cardioid Condenser USB Microphone, with Built-in Headphone Jack & Volume Control, Perfect for Content Creators (Black)

Condenser mics are usually super sensitive which can sometimes cause lots of problems when you go cheap. The AT2020 and the rest of the line swerve this issue by just being less sensitive than usual. This makes them good all-rounders that are less prone to background and room noise while still retaining the detail and clarity that condenser mics are known for. Any model of AT2020 is plenty of mic for amateur podcasts, youtubing, broadcasting, streaming, homebrew voiceover work, home recording etc etc. For any professional recording work that feeds your family, especially singing, you probably are looking at other/better mics to begin with. Though this mic IS intended for vocals and should be quite decent for singing if it's set up right. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's basically intended for amateur/beginner usage. As for the USB+ version it's intended to fill a pretty specific niche. For anyone looking at a Blue Snowball/Yeti, Various Generic Mics, Gaming Mics, etc, this is a great alternative from a very trusted audio-centric brand. I already use a few different mics for my amateur studio stuff but I needed something that would interface with my main PC directly for gaming, video calls, some minor recording stuff, etc. USB is limited to what you are able to do with your PC. If you understand the limitations and you know what you want to do, there's nothing wrong with the USB version of this mic. However if you are trying to do anything more serious you probably want the analog XLR version and a separate external interface. A few tips to get this sucker working at its best. 1) GET A MIC BOOM. These mics capture best from the side(or direct front if you will, as opposed to the end) and suspended as opposed to standing on a solid surface. So a full boom mount that lets you suspend and position the mic properly will make a big difference. 2) FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS AUDIO GET A SHOCKMOUNT. Even though these are on the less sensitive end of condenser mics they're still very prone to vibration, floor noise, etc. Microphonics if you will, haha. Even a very cheap cage-style shockmount will negate a LOT of this. Things like vibrating hard drives, footsteps, and movement noises will carry through to this mic. The more suspended and disconnected it is from the room the better. 3) GET A POP FILTER. Any sort of pop filter will make an immense difference with these mics due to their sensitivity. I prefer the foam stretch-cover styled ones because they have a very slight noise cancelling effect, preventing far away noises from picking up so clearly. Most importantly though pop filters prevent plosives. 4) DO SOME ROOM TREATMENT. It doesn't need to be much. Just a couple cheap 12 packs of foam panels will do 99% of the job. There is no magic "one-size-fits-all" trick for acoustic panels. In my computer room I treated the wall immediately behind me and the wall immediately in front of me behind my speakers. It prevents a lot of room reflections outright and will likely also improve your speakers if you are a music person. Overall this is a cheap but capable mic that can be used for a lot with enough prep. It is definitely not a toy mic and is the real deal. A lot of currently HUGE professional artists got their start with an AT2020.

I have to say I am SHOCKED at how good the quality is for the price on this microphone. Background : I don't work in "the business" or anything. I am a bit of an audiophile (I know good sound when I hear it), but am admittedly NO expert on these things. At one point in my life, I was an on-air voice, and my father was life-long on air. I know a fair amount about audio quality. That said, I never made it my career as my dad did. And so I know more than the average person, but FAR less than the experts. I do have a high-end Neumann, but as I don't have day-to-day need of these things, that requires a bit more preparation to use. I wanted something a little easier to deal with. I have to say I was VERY PLEASANTLY impressed with this microphone and without need of any additional amplifier. Included shock mount isn't super robust, but also not cheap plastic or anything. Definitely serviceable. It does the job nicely. I do not have a "quiet room" ... just my office with a laundry room not that far down the hall. For my test, the microphone did pick up some background from the laundry room, but that was as expected, and to be honest, FAR better than it could have been for a condenser. Overall sound quality was buttery. I'm not that great explaining tonal profiles. I'll leave that to someone that knows those things. But my baritone voice came very cleanly. Microphone picks up nice bass notes, if you have a higher pitched voice, you may want to see someone's review that more aligns with yours. No real setup required on my Windows 11 PC. Plugged it in, went to sound settings and set "Microphone 2020" as the active profile to use, and boom it worked. I did have to bump up the input volume on my PC, it defaults to 50% which was ludicrously low leveling. Excellent product. I LOVE THIS THING.

The AT2020USB+ is an excellent choice for pod-casting, making home and professional level voice-over recordings. Included in the box is an instructional leaflet, warranty card, a very short lightweight tripod mic stand, a 9 foot long USB connector cable and a soft carry pouch. The AT 2020USB+ records directly onto a computer through a recording software (not included), like Audacity and others. I have the (free) Audacity for mac and the (paid for) NCH Wavepad, and find Wavepad simple to use and easy to record and process the audio. The mic has a function for directly mixing the mic input with a pre-recorded audio from the computer it is plugged into, by means of an adjustable control on the mic. There is also a headphone jack to monitor the mic signal in real time with a volume control on the mic. When plugged in to a computer's USB port, the AT2020USB+ lights up with a bright blue led showing that it is on, as well as giving the 'front and center' mark for recording. Speaking into the mic from the front or a sideways angle of about 45 degrees on each side (90 degrees total) gives a very good quality of recording volume. Going beyond that angle towards the rear of the mic captures less and less sound. From a rough and ready test-- at a constant volume level of speech, the recorded volume comes to a fairly uniform maximum of -12 dB directly to the front of the mic and within a 45 degree range from the front. Going towards the back the max recorded volume drops to -18 dB or less. Thus the cardioid pickup eliminates a lot of ambient sounds from the side and back, but not all of it. The quality of the recording is bright and realistic. When recording in a home environment like bedroom/living room environment, the mic tend to give a slight echo effect even though there are soft furnishings and furniture. While this is not unpleasant, for professional quality recordings a regular or portable sound booth will be needed. A temporary one can be quickly rigged as described below. ***Useful tips*** * Quick tip for acoustic isolation -- Enclosing the mic in 12" sound absorbing Acoustic foam panels around the mic fixes this. These can be the Auralex Studiofoam Pyramid 2 Inches Thick and 2 Feet by 2 Feet Acoustic Absorption Panels, Charcoal (12 Panels) or similar, but in 12" square panels. The mic on the stand, aligned vertically upright is around 9.5 inches tall and easily can be accommodated in a 12" enclosure. I use 5 free-standing panels to create a 5 sided cuboid form (including a base) leaving the front side open. I prop the foam panels up against each other like a house of cards and dismantle them when not needed. The pyramid wedges of each panel loosely grip the edges/pyramids of other panels, somewhat untidy looking but very serviceable. [As I am in India I needed a local equivalent and found an excellent substitute for the Auraflex pyramid foam through an internet search. The cost was around $3.00 per 12" x 12" panel--6 panels total=$18.00 + phone calls to manufacturer and local conveyance to pick up the material=$4.00. (Total cost=$22.00)] * Pop Minimization & Filter -- For minimizing pops in the recording, record from a slight sideways angle rather than the front and center line of the microphone. While the AT 2020USB+'s grill design around the cardioid capsule reduces clicks and pops in closeup speech, a pop filter shield in front of the mic helps to remove the clicks and pops further. I made my pop filter with a 6 inch embroidery hoop with nylon hose stretched through it and it works well. Attached to a flexible goose-neck on a lamp base this adjustable pop filter is highly portable and can be easily packed for travel, like the AT2020USB+. * Mic stand problems -- The stand is adequate if one adjusts the angle of the mic so that it has a stable center of gravity--about 30 degrees from the horizontal plane over the center of the mic stand makes it quite stable. However, then one will access the mic from a semi-sideways position rather than directly at the front. (Addressing the mic at a slight sideways angle will usually give a better recording.) If the mic has to be upright, then stabilizing the mic stand further is needed, or it will tend to topple over if nudged. * Additional Mic stand stabilization tip -- Align the vertically positioned mic, as shown on the box, but with a slight tilt towards the center of the stand--and--over one of the the tripod legs. That will give it the maximum stability possible given the limitations of the stand. If one aligns the vertical mic as shown on the packing box--that is, in between two of the tripod legs, it will surely tip over at the slightest touch. * Vibrational isolation -- As there is no vibrational isolation from the surface the mic stand rests on, any vibration from the surface will transfer to the recording. Setting the mic on an acoustic absorption panel like Aurafoam will help a little. A separate shock-mount can be got if needed, but if one is careful, and sets the mic on a surface not likely to be handled or touched during recording, the shock-mount is probably unnecessary for most uses. If the mic and monitor function levels, or headphone volume level on the mic are to be accessed during a recording session, the handling noise of this will come through on the mic regardless of having or not having a shock mount. Doing test recordings to set volume and mix levels before the actual recordings will help create better quality recordings. Some trial and error adjustments are to be expected. I was earlier using a ZoomH4N for closeup recordings. As it picks up a lot of ambient noise, for podcasts or closeup voice audio that did not give the results I was looking for. The Zoom is excellent for general recordings in a lecture or concert as it has an adjustable audio capture spread of either 90 or 120 degrees, and is quite sensitive. The AT2020USB+ is great for closeup voice-overs or specialized recordings due to its cardioid pattern audio capture pattern and off-axis rejection of sound. All in all--I am very pleased with this product--a great buy, reliable seller.

I bought this mic after listening to many very clean audio demos comparing this and the Blue Yeti. I've bought many usb and submini jack mics in the same price range, and all suffered from obvious hiss or hum. This mic has none of that. In fact, it's impossible to get my room quiet enough to hear any hiss at all, even wrapped in a thick foam pillow. Even with my PC under my desk, running with fans on minimum, I could still hear some mechanical noise somewhere. It turned out to be a battery powered clock that I normally can't hear! Simply turning down the gain in Windows by 25% got rid of that, and now I only hear clear, rich vocals when recording. The build feels very solid. It's heavy, milled out of aluminum. It has a built in DAC to send the USB signal out to your PC without investing in an external XLR interface, and a headphone out jack to monitor the mic with zero latency. You can mix the mic output with PC audio for gaming or streaming, but you won't be listening to the final audio mix unless you turn it all the way to the "Com" side and monitor the mic through your PC. The headphone jack shows up in Windows as a system output, so you can use it like any other headphone jack. Be warned though, you'll need to remove any PC or USB drives from the desk you mount this on unless you have a good vibration damping mount. I have a simple mic arm, and was picking up mechanical hum until I moved my PC to the floor. Also, this is a side-address mic, so the pickup area is directly in front, not on the end of the mic. You'll see the blue led on the pickup. This is the best mic I've ever owned, and for occasional voice work and streaming, it's more than enough. Very easy to sound like a deep-voiced movie trailer guy with this!

I bought this on the recommendation of many others. I was to replace a Samson Go usb mic that broke. I have never had this kind of high end mic before. This AT2020+ is VERY sensitive in comparison to the Samson Go mic. Far better quality sound yes...but picks up much more background noise, even more so than the Go mic did on its Omni setting. I can literally hear a person in the other room talking or watching tv on very low volume. And that is through a wall and L shaped hallway. ( it seems this effect is mainly when u are using headphones into the monitor jack and built in volume amplifier control, recordings via computer, as long as u have the input level set right, isn't nearly as sensitive as the monitor leads u to be.) It does a very good job when u speak directly into it from 1 to 6in from the front. Never heard such clarity of my voice before. Farther away, it is more airy and definitely picks up anything in the room like a small fan..even the slight hum of my air filter in the far corner of the room. I guess they mean it by calling it a "Studio" microphone. Best used in a sound dampened quite of a room. This is a plug and play mic. No software, no settings. U can only adjust the mics standalone headphone volume and monitor mix level. Ulike mics like the Blue Yeti, no modes to change to Omini or Stereo etc. This is locked into "Directional" or " Cardioid" (But honestly its much more omni then I had expected. ) Works perfectly in Windows 10. Build quality is rock solid. Very sturdy. The stand could be better. Its clumsy and easy to have the mic fall over if not adjusted just right. Get a pop filter. I got the AT2020 Foam Windscreen Pop Filter by Whisperteknik. Slips right over it perfectly.

I have had this particular mic for years now. Not once have I had an issue with it. It included all accessories needed to get it to set up nicely. The materials used also provide some serious durability. All of which I need for how much it has been dropped and still did a great job! As a USB Mic, it has a great ease of use. The size also is a big thing, it isn't overly large and doesn't take up much space either.

I like to sing. I'm a hobbyist that knows just enough about recording so that I sound really ignorant when talking to experts. However, I have had a few set ups over the years. My first set up ever was a live PA system that I cobbled together out of cheap equipment. That's really the crux of anything musical. You start with something cheap, and then as you use it, you begin to discover its limitations. However, it's best to not start with something expensive until you know exactly what you want, and that has been a big part of my journey. That first PA set up from over 25 years ago had an interesting attribute in that the microphones I had were really cheap on a website called Musicians Friend. I think I paid $20 each, and I bought four. Over the next five or six years, as I met with various other musicians and hobbyist studio jockeys, I kept hearing accolades over how awesome those old microphones were. They were Audio Technical mics, and they were the dynamic kind that needed an external boost to get to "the next level". The beauty with that kind of mic is that you have a ton of freedom to do what you want to do with it, but you need external gear to do it. I played with that live set up for a few years, but I was ultimately limited on what I wanted to spend, and information on what I could do to make it better was limited in the early days of broadband internet. A few years ago, I discovered a now defunct website where musicians could collaborate on music virtually. I think it was called BandHub, and it was really an awesome place to get together. The community was very supportive of musicians of all skill levels, and the couple of times I had a harsh critic on that site who had nothing constructive to offer, the rest of the site banded up and send that individual packing. Meanwhile, I learned a lot about recording and singing on a couple of compilations I did on that site, and I was completely honest with folks that my primary purpose there was to learn and have fun while doing it. I really do wish I could find one bloke I collaborated with on a Phil Collins song. He was so patient with me, offering me tons of tips on how I could improve my technique that I owe him a ton of thanks. But that all is a digression. Moving from a PA set up to a computer recorded sound required a bit of customizing. I wanted to get something that was as easy to set up as possible, and a condenser mic was the best option for that. My first foray was an entry level mic made by Samsung. It worked okay for a few years, but I eventually began to learn its limitations. Primarily, the issue I had with that mic was that it was too easy to overdrive. When I first bought it, it wasn't as much of an issue due to the fact that my singing technique wasn't very polished. As I've taken voice lessons and worked on my discipline, I'm finding that it's incredibly easy to overdrive the mic, and I was unable to find any kind of a setting where I could actually hear myself on the monitor without the overdrive happening. So I was off to get a new mic, and I'll tell you flat out that there are two brands when it comes to audio equipment, based on what I have tried, that rank head and shoulders above all else. Audio Technica is one of those brands, and this appears to be their "entry level" version of a condenser mic. I figured it had to be better than the Samsung one I was using, and I was right. I've been using this for about three days now, and I've been experimenting with different set ups to get the best sound. My favorite part of this mic, though, is the gain control to toggle the monitor between the microphone and the other input. This is great for monitoring, as it doesn't affect the sound output at all. I can make this mic overdrive, but I was able to find some settings where I can go all out and still return a decent sound. You can spend a lot of money on this type of equipment. I think I got a pretty darn good deal here for $150. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that in order to upgrade again, which I might have to do in a few more years, I'm looking at a dollar value with a comma in it. I'll cross that bride when I get to it. For now, I'm trying to figure out which is better. Singing directly into the mic with an external pop filter, or singing just above or below the mic without a pop filter.

Awesome mic I've recorded two audiobooks on it so far in my home studio. Excellent quality for the price and gets the job done. Feels a bit bulky for a condenscer mic, but that's a minor inconvenince for the quality.

This microphone is high quality, both in build and in audio quality. it is easy to setup with just needing to plug it in and following the included instructions to ensure that its volume is appropriate. The microphone comes included with a small tripod to mount it on to allow it to point towards the desired audio source (usually you). The microphone is a little heavy and the small tripod is prone to falling over if bumped but if you dont move it, it's perfectly adaquate. It can pick up voices with crystal clear quality making this a good mic for talking or recording. I bought this microphone to talk to people over the internet and to record my guitar, for this it is excellent. It can pick up the softest of plucks and the hardest of strums just fine making music recordings possible with it. along with its mount, it comes with a small carrying bag and a 2m cable making it easy to place anywhere you need. When plugged in it automatically installs its required drivers which include a virtual audio cable. This allows you to switch software to output its audio back into your microphone. This is very useful for things like soundboards where you want to blend sound effects with your voice. The microphone has a dial on the device to adjust the blend between the microphone's audio and its input from the virtual audio cable. The microphone also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack which allows you to hear your voice live without the delay usually caused from software's audio monitoring. The second dial controls the volume of this monitoring feature. Neither dial however controls its output volume to the computer. Overall, this is a wonderful microphone. It has everything a person might need in an audio input device. While it may seem expensive, in terms of audio equipment this is an affordable option without sacrificing quality.

Ya conocía la calidad del audio así que no estaba cogiendo algo a ciegas. Sencillamente lo compré por dos cosas... primera porque me lo recomendaron y segundo porque aunque tiene una calidad de audio excelente, comparado con algún micro del mismo rango de precio, es un peliiiin menos sensible. Obviamente si estamos grabando en una wisper room o tenemos un estudio perfectamente aislado acusticamente, no vamos a tener problemas con otro tipo de micro más sensible, pero si grabamos un poco en plan casero y luego tenemos que limpiar audio... uff!!! ahi es donde entra este AT2020 porque tiene un equilibrio muy bueno entre sensibilidad y calidad de sonido y eso, en un ambiente de grabación casero nos va a ahorrar trabajo o directamente nos lo va a evitar. Por eso decia en el titulo que a veces más no es mejor. No tiene mute ni control de ganancia en el mismo micro, en cuanto al botón de mute lo he echado en falta, pero no el control de ganancia, al final con la conexión USB lo hacemos directamente del ordenador y no estamos siempre cambiando esa ganancia. Si que lleva en el micro el control de mix y el control de volumen del auricular, el auricular pega fuertecillo. Obviamente con el patrón cardioide tenemos que hablar en el mismo eje que la parte frontal del micro y AT nos ayuda con la inclusión de un LED azul que es donde tenemos que dirigir nuestra voz. También me ha gustado el sistema de sujección, se ven tuercas de calida y aprisionan, fijando el micro en su posición correcta a las mil maravillas. La bolsita de transporte y para guardarlo me ha parecido muy bien, la caja tambien es un buen sitio para guardar el micro si lo no estamos usando porque lleva una forma pre-cortada en espuma muy maja. Dicho esto, he grabado un pequeño video para que lo vierais... la parte final del video he usado el audio del micro directamente, pero vamos, la calidad es muy buena.
