Cleanse. Sculpt your body, boost your health, renew your mind, and improve your whole outlook on life. More than a collection of delicious recipes, Clean Green Drinks is a guide to a leaner, happier, and more fulfilled life. With more than 100 perfectly balanced, delicious drink recipes that can be made in a minute, the book will help anyone sip away extra pounds as they sip away stress. Health journalist and chef Candice Kumai reveals the new science behind her enticing, refreshing flavors; and she shows how easy it is to get fit, healthy, happy, and glowing! Review: nice blend of both worlds - Candice gives a variety of juice and smoothie recipes to suit any palate. I'm new to juicing and this book was just the help I needed to get me started. I made and was pleased with many recipes from the book and even got my husband to drink a few (no easy feat!). I was also happy to see the smoothies had a focus on vegetables with a sensible balance of fruit for a natural sweetness. Hardly any outside sweetners in her recipes (agave was in a couple I believe). If you have a sweet tooth, as I sometimes do, there are even chocolate flavored smoothies which are delicious and surprisingly healthy! Overall this book is a nice blend of both worlds and I definitely recommend it! Review: I haven't gone on a scale but I will says clothes are fitting better and this weekend friends say they can see I'm ... - I have had the nutribullet for almost a year and I goofed and did 50/50 fruits and veggies and my sugar level went up. Oooops. I purchased this book and learned soooo much! I have had this book for three weeks now and I am able to replace my breakfast and lunch with shakes. I have a lot of extra energy. I make a healthy dinner every night and I have noticed when I do eat dinner or lunch with real food instead of a green shake I can only eat half of my food. I haven't gone on a scale but I will says clothes are fitting better and this weekend friends say they can see I'm losing weight. Happy dance! Also my boyfriend never ate breakfast during the week, but now I make him a shake every morning and he is pleased with how much energy he has and how much it fills him up. I'm blending in the morning with my nutribullet and with a small blender at lunch that I keep at my desk. I have been sending the link to the book to all my friends. Also all the supplements she advises on have been wonderful and tasty. Also I was able to purchase them all on desertcart. Oh another plus if you don't have a blender or juicer yet, buy this b

5 Star. Nothing short of it. One suggestion: A reference section would be helpful. For example, finding a particular ingredient in one of the recipes that you might be looking for. I find myself paging through the whole book looking for one ingredient that I remember being in a favorite drink. I could "bookmark" the page, BUT there are too many favorites. It's a small book, I usually find it, but it would be more efficient especially in the morning when one is in a bit of a hurry, nice if the book had this option. I ordered a second book for a gift. It is exciting to try the new recipes and their combinations that one wouldn't "think" to combine! I love the breakdown of nutrients and their values on each page. I found the table of contents helpful as well. My favorite: The Chocolate Avocado Goddess!

Very good except for a few things
I like this book because the recipes are good and the ingredients are very healthy.. I would have rated this book 5 stars but did not for two reasons. One, I don't like that the juice recipes and smoothies are intermixed within each category. I had invested in a Vitamix blender and do not plan on investing in a good quality juicer too, so I have no interest in the juice recipes, so I wish they were separate from the smoothie recipes. Two, the serving sizes are inconsistent. Some recipes serve 2, some serve 3 and some serve 4. For me, this does not work well because I only make smoothies for myself. For every recipe, I have to divide the quantities down to one serving size and some do not turn out well when reduced down to a single serving size. I wish she had created the recipes for a single serving size and for those who make smoothies for more than one person, it is easier to just repeat the ingredients by the number of servings needed.

Such a great variety! Order it!
I use my Vitamix 5200 at least twice a day (and my bf uses it as much as well). We love green smoothies and while we typically made up our own recipes or browsed pinterest, I couldn't pass up this new book by Candice Kumai. I love her other cookbooks! As you can see in the preview, the beginning of the book has great explanations of how to stock your fridge, pantry, and details health benefits of all her favorite ingredients. There are plenty of new combinations I've never considered like the Lean Pumpkin Smoothie and adding mint! I think it's heavier on smoothie recipes, but that is fine by me. Since receiving the book last Friday I've already tried at least 5 recipes. I especially appreciate the flat belly and post workout smoothies like The Green Vanilla Almond! The book is small and hardcover, so it's convenient to keep nearby in the kitchen. ORDER IT!

I absolutely love this book
I absolutely love this book! So many great recipes & info about clean juices & smoothies. My favorite smoothies are chocolate PB monster & lemon-blueberry bliss. I look forward to having them each time! I also love how easy the ingredients are - super simple things you can either buy @ any grocery store or health food store. Great book!

Good book with some annoying issues
FYI for those considering buying: this book includes both juices and smoothies--in other words, you'll need a juicer as well as a blender if you want to try all of the recipes. One workaround if you don't have a juicer is a nut milk bag--just process the ingredients in your blender and then strain the mix through the fine mesh bag to get juice without a juicer. Also, the author is a big fan of ingredients like matcha powder, bee pollen, green superfood powder, maca, probiotics, and so on, and a lot of the recipes have these add-ins. I mention it because I know that's not always everyone's cup of tea...just know ahead of time that a good chunk of the recipes call for these kinds of ingredients. I personally love the general content of this book, and based on the title and what I know of Candice Kumai, it's exactly what I wanted and was expecting: lots of healthy and varied green drinks to add to my smoothie and juice repertoire. Awesome. The issue is that there are some irritating problems with the book that make it a lot less functional and enjoyable to use than it would have been with a few minor tweaks. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars, because I do think the content itself is good and I hate to knock it for issues unrelated to the writing or the recipes themselves, but if I have to choose between 3 and 4 stars, the problems are enough of a nuisance to knock off the extra star. Awkward serving sizes: too many of the drink recipes in the book are for 3 or 4 people. It doesn't make much sense to me: are that many people regularly making the same smoothie for 3-4 people at a time? It seems like it'd make more sense to write all the recipes for two people, which makes it simple to double or halve for more or fewer people. My usual go-to source for smoothie recipes does it that way, and it's simple enough that I'd never given recipe scaling a second thought until I sat down and tried to make my weekly shopping list using this book. In the grand scheme of things, a little math isn't that difficult, but I wish the amounts for a lot of these recipes were less fiddly: who wants to start off the day trying to measure out exactly 1/6 of a pear, 2/3 of a teaspoon of nut butter and 3/8 of a cup of coconut water for something as simple as a smoothie? Missing recipes: There's a chart for a 7-day eating & exercise guide in the book, but the dinner recipes it lists are nowhere to be found (at least in the kindle version). I know this is a drinks book, but if a key part of the book recommends specific recipes, then those recipes should be included...or there should at least be an outside source mentioned where readers can go to find them. No index: Why? I don't understand why they wouldn't include an index in the back of the book so you can actually search for specific drinks by name or ingredient. The 7-day eating guide I mentioned above lists specific drinks for each day, and if there's no index I guess you're just supposed to flip around till you find them? At least on the kindle you can search the actual content of the book for key words and phrases, but still. I really don't understand why they would omit such a simple tool to make using this book so much easier and more functional. And the last issue I have isn't specific to just this book, but I find it really frustrating when books that list nutrition info and clearly have a focus on healthy living and/or weight management (I know this isn't a diet book, but I do think it's conscious of weight loss and/or maintenance based on the content) don't list recipe ingredients by weight. I know not everyone uses a food scale, and I don't think authors should completely do away with listing cups/teaspoons/etc, but I wish they'd also include grams/milligrams/ml/ounces/whatever alongside those measurements. One person's idea of half a cup of spinach might be totally different than another's (is it packed? is it chopped or are the leaves whole? etc)...for something like spinach that's not calorically dense it doesn't matter that much (other than how it might affect the taste of the finished recipe...which I guess in a recipe book IS quite important after all), but when a recipe lists "half an avocado" and then gives definitive nutrition info, I think it's misleading. It might seem like it shouldn't matter, but for people who really need to watch their intake, the extra (or missed) calories add up quickly. Overall I'm glad I purchased the book and I like a lot of the recipes, I just wish the issues above had been resolved before it was published.

It all depends on the definition of "clean"
I was expecting clean drinks in the sense that they contain fresh fruits (and only fresh fruits). However, most o f the protein smoothies require the addition of a couple of spoons of protein powder. Many "vitamin" smoothies need spoons of spiroulina powder or green superfoot powder... Not what I was expecting.

A great book
I use this book every day - i'm a veggie hater so was a challenge to get my brain used to the idea of drinking green drinks with spinach in - but all the smoothies i've tried taste wonderful and more importantly i feel good. Easy to read, great pics Would highly recommend it

I love Candice Kumai's cook books
I love Candice Kumai's cook books. Take the guesswork out of healthy eating without compromising taste. Also, her introductions and philosophy on sexy food is just as valuable as the recipes.
