Cultivated: The Elements of Floral Style

Description

From renowned gardener, floral designer, photographer, writer, and teacher Christin Geall—a richly informative work on the principles of floral style that brilliantly and delightfully elevates floral design to fine art. Christin Geall is known and loved as the owner of the floral studio Cultivated by Christin and as the talent behind Instagram’s @cultivatedbychristin. Through all her work, she emboldens designers, gardeners, and entrepreneurs to think differently and deeply about their work with flowers and floral design. Cultivated is a flower and gardening book like no other; it is comprised of a series of short, sometimes personal, essays paired with images. Geall draws upon the fine arts and historical sources, including explorations of Baroque music, the paintings of the Impressionists, and the work of floral innovators like Gertrude Jekyll and Constance Spry. The breathtaking photographs of her own lush designs illustrate techniques for creating brilliant arrangements that spark the imagination. This information-rich coffee table book is a complete master class in floral arranging. It covers all aspects of floral design, including choosing flowers and plants to grow and arrange, selecting tools and vessels, balancing color and form, and even photographing and selling arrangements. Cultivated offers universal lessons for all levels of practitioners, budgets, and materials, and makes an outstanding gift for anyone with a passion for flowers.
