What kind of paint is recommendded? Oil based?

We didn't paint ours. But, if memory serves me correctly it stated you could use any type.

The description says 3" breadth, but details say 2" x 2". can anyone tell me if it's 2" or 3" deep (i.e., from the wall)? tx

It is 2" deep. Breadth is distance between top and bottom edge of molding

Your info says "pre-primed for most paints". I need to know if the primer you use is compatible with lacquer?

It should work just fine but since the technology behind different lacquers, stains, etc is constantly changing, it would be best to test on a small piece before you invest in a larger part of your project. Hope this helps.

Very attractive crown molding

I do wish that I would have looked closer to this prior to ordering it. I love the look of it, but it was a bit complicated to install. The dimension difference between the wall and the ceiling made getting it cut and attached to the ceiling challenging. Probably not too bad for a professional, but certainly for this DIY’er.
