Best Knife I’ve Ever Owned!
Bought the M16-14, and I have carried it every single day since then. I have its little brother too, which is the same shape but 3” instead of 4”. The smaller version does not have the additional locking mechanism. The 4” has the same sleeve lock mechanism as the 3”, but with the addition of a little red nub that must be moved before the sleeve lock can be disengaged. This is a fantastic locking mechanism that is super easy to open and close one-handed once you practice with it. I prefer the bigger knife for lots of reasons: fits my hand better, less likely to get dislodged from my pocket due to longer clip and heavier knife, less likely to cut myself (the short one made it harder to safely open and close for me, maybe I have large hands), and the bigger knife flicks open much easier and faster. It’s also got more components and parts, which are all beneficial additions, like rough textured outer handle material instead of anodized aluminum like the smaller version. And the blade hinge mechanism is better in my opinion. The weight of the larger 4” blade is sooo much easier to flick open. This knife is super sharp and holds a good edge. As a bartender, I’ve had to use it many times to cut fruit in a pinch, and it always performs flawlessly. The serrations are really great. There are different versions of the Veff Serrations on different versions of the M16, but I think the M16-14 Veff Serrations are the best. They are all the same size, so easier to sharpen, and they are at a slight diagonal angle instead of perpendicular to the length of the blade. This diagonal angle aims the serrations towards your hand, so that as you pull the knife towards yourself, the serrations get a nice bite into the material you’re cutting. Whereas perpendicular serrations would sort of require a motion similar to whittling a stick, these angled ones just seem to really effectively dig into the material, whatever it may be, making precise cuts in difficult materials like a hot knife through butter. One thing you may not like about this knife is the dual blade guard. There are two protrusions at the base of the blade that prevent your hand from sliding down the kife. This is tactially advantageous for a few reasons. If you have to use the knife for defensive purposes, you are less likley to cut yourself on your own blade while striking your attacker. The blade guard protrusions are also the fastest way to open the knife. Specifically, I use my index finger to flick the back blade guard on the spine of the knife, which is actually the blade side, but it’s positioned on the backside or spine of the knife when closed. With a strong, sharp flick and a nicely oiled blade hinge, it opens 100% of the time for me, and is just as fast as a switchblade. You can slightly loosen the axle screw if it’s too tight to allow the knife to open 100% of the time on the first flick. The blade guard also helps you remove the knife from your pocket if you pinch both protrusions of the blade guard between your fingers instead of pinching the knife in the axle direction as you probably normally would (just imagine how you would pinch a knife to retrieve it from your pocket if it had no blade guard. Now imagine twisting your hand 90 degrees, then pinching the knife and removing it. This is the orientation I use. I just slide my fingers down into my pocket along both sides of the knife, thumb on the spine of the blade, and index finger on the spine of the handle. Then pinch or pull against the blade guards and out comes the knife. Get your grip right, then flick! It’s a little different if you’re not used to folding knives with blade guards. But the major drawbacks of the blade guards are threefold: 1) rough ridge texture on end of blade guard will rub your hand if you stick your hand in your pocket, which hurts. So need to remove knife from pocket to painlessly retrieve items deep down inside. 2) if you’re not careful, anything that catches the blade guard can pull the knife open. Other reviewers have complained about this, but I say you just need to be smart about how you use the knife. Make sure that neither items in that same pocket or your fingers or clothes have tugged on the blade guard and opened the knife. Be especially careful when removing other items from the same pocket. If the knife opens too easily in your pocket, slightly tighten the blade axle screw. Anyone who got cut because it opened in their pocket is an idiot who failed to adequately understand this dangerous implement they chose to shove down their pocket. Don’t buy the version with blade guards if you aren’t willing to make sure you’re not using it wrong. Don’t be dumb, you will cut yourself or your clothing. However, for me this has not been an issue. I am aware that if I tug upward on the blade-spine-side blade guard, I may accidentally open the knife in my pocket. So I check it frequently by squeezing the knife from outside my pants to ensure it is closed, or by pressing down on the blade-spine-side blade guard to ensure blade is fully seated in closed position. Also, I like to make sure the handle-spine-side blade guard is stuck just above the fabric of my pocket. If the blade guard on the side of the handle spine can’t move down, then the knife can’t rotate open in your pocket. Also, the pocket clip can be removed and placed on the other side of the knife, making left or right handed orientations possible. You should use some LOCTITE to set the screws in place. You will need a star bit for the clip screws. Depending on which pocket you keep the knife in, you can place the clip on the side that would orient the blade of the knife against the edge of your pocket, further ensuring it won’t open. Personally, I don’t do this because I haven’t had any issues. My knife sits in my right pocket with the spine of the blade aiming to my left, and the spine of the handle to my right. The spine of the handle sits flush against the far right edge of my pants pocket. I have had zero issues carrying this way for months and months. 3) the blade guard may catch on your pants pocket as you try to remove it, unless you grab it, as i mentioned above, by pinching the blade guard instead of the axle. But again, this is a non issue for intelligent users. Dumb people will cut themselves with this knife or dislike its features because they don’t take the time to learn how to use it. Do not buy a folding pocketknife with protruding blade guards if you are too dumb to avoid cutting yourself. Buy the version with no blade guard if it concerns you. Personally I would recommend the blade guard version because I think the benefits massively outweigh any perceived drawbacks to this design. Anyway, buy this knife if you want a solid tool that will keep serving you faithfully for years.

One very tough knife!
I didn't really know what to expect when I ordered this knife. I have never had a CRKT product before. I did the research and finally placed the order with a vendor here on Amazon. When the knife arrived I knew immediately that it was going to be something special. It has good heft, it feels great in the hand and well balanced. But a lot of knives can say that. But this one just had "special" written all over it. When I first opened the knife I was very surprised that it opened so smoothly and easily, but not too easily as to be a pain or trouble at the wrong times. It opened crisply when I flipped it out and it locked in place without hesitation and was ready for use right then. The two tabs at right angles to the blade allow the blade to be flipped open quickly and easily and when the blade locks open they provide a very secure blade guard to keep the hand from slipping off the handle. This feature alone was one of the primary factors in my purchase and it did not disappoint me. Probably the biggest surprise was how tight and secure the entire knife was when it was open and locked. I know the descriptions said it was going to be pretty tight but this was amazing! The knife, when opened, is the closest thing to a high quality fixed blade that you will ever find. There is no wiggle, no movement of any kind at the pivot point. It is tough with no rotational give to the blade. It doesn't twist. It is true this knife is big and it takes a lot of room in your pocket if you carry it there. One thing that users should be aware of at the begining. If you wear the knife in the point down manner inside the pocket, you need to be careful when withdrawling the knife. If you pull on the convienently placed tabs at the top of the knife, instead of on the body of the knife, it is very possible for the blade to be rotated out of the body in a partially open position inside the pocket. That won't happen if even pressure is used on both tabs but just be aware of that possibility. There have been some comments about having problems folding the knife back to the closed position. I am able to close this knife with one hand. Now it is not as fast as some of my other knives but for the security it provides in the locked open state, this is not a problem IMHO. The handle surface has good texture and I expect it to last a long time. This knife is truely a high quality knife that can be depended on when things get dicy. I'm very glad I bought it and will be looking at other CRKT products in the future.

Phenomenal EDC. 5 stars.
Woooo buddy! This blade is spectacular! And I do not give that kind of recognition lightly. Probably even less so when it comes to every day carry folders, I'm very picky. Lets start with the handle: as expected, high quality. Not plastic, but a compressed glass fiber makes for a sturdy heavy housing. It feels great in your hand and your fingertips land just right in the hole punches. Blade: came razor sharp out of the box. Love the shape of the tanto tip, i find the corner tip of the top front of the blade perfect to press into materials then drag for a great cut. And the serrations are vicious. I mean absolutely eviscerating. The black finish is nice to but it will scratch with heavy use. The best part though is the dual hilt. It is part of the blade so it will not ever come loose and provides a great level of extra security so your hand will never slide up onto the blade, not to mention how it sits nicely on the top of your hand. Locking mechanism: Again, outstanding job providing yet another level of safety. I have personally had blades pop loose when exerting great force while locked and trust me its not something you ever want to happen. We're talking definite stiches. This knife will probably never fail like that. It does take a day or two before you can get it down to a nice swift movement, pulling the safety and sliding the lock to the side, but it will become natural quickly. All in all this is one of the best knives in my EDC collection. I love the size too, you can feel it in your hand. It's there. And it feels great. Dependable. Sturdy. I would hate to be at the wrong end of this piece.

CRKT M16-14SFG
The knife was razor sharp when i received it. I was able to shave a little hair off of my hand right out of the box. This is probably the second sharpest knife from the factory that I have ever purchased. If you are thinking about using this as an every day carry knife I would look for one of the smaller versions. It is HUGE. I should have pulled out a ruler to figure out exactly how big it was going to be before purchasing, but that is my bad. I am still giving this 5 stars because it is an awesome knife. I love the look of the tanto blade, and the new veff serrations. I only have limited cutting experience with it so far but the serrations cut through rope like a knife through butter. The auto lock takes a minute to get used to but then it becomes second nature. It also feels very secure when locked open. Like I said I would not use this as an every day pocket knife for a few reasons. First being the size. The blade is 3.875 inches. I believe they make a similar knife with a 3.5inch and a 3inch blade. Second is the Dual flippers. When you have the knife clipped in to your pants pocket those flippers only get in the way if you try to reach for anything else in your pocket. One more thing to mention, the clip comes VERY stiff and started to cause some serious wear on my brand new levi's after two days of carrying, so if you plan to carry it that way I would stretch it out a little first. For me the most convenient way to carry this knife is in a jacket pocket or a glove box. I would absolutely recommend this to a friend, but the smaller version if they want an every day pocket knife. Edited to add: After cutting some plastic that wasn't all that tough I noticed a couple of the Veff serration tips had chipped away. It is not all that noticeable at this point but I don't doubt that it could eventually get a little worse. It is mostly a cosmetic issue since it has not dulled the cutting ability. It isn't really a problem for me but I'm sure it could bother some people.

Good knife with compromises.
This is my "favorite" EDC knife, but I need to put "favorite" in quotes because really I mostly like the design. It's large, strong, safe. Physically impossible to accidentally close on your fingers. Easy to flick open one-handed. However, the edge grind from the factory and the steel is very non-ideal. The edge was very uneven. I know these are supposed to be an asymmetrical half-chisel grind, but even with that in mind, the edges were wobbly and uneven, and one edge was actually at 25-30 degrees with a taper towards the end which is barely an edge at all. I did set a new edge and sharpen it myself after I saw the state of things. It took about 2 hours and at the end... Well it's decently sharp. It's better than "$5 Walmart mystery knife sharp" which is basically how it arrived. I consider it a decent edge now. However the steel is also just not the easiest to sharpen or the most durable. It's just not a great knife at actually getting sharp or staying sharp. Again, the knife *will* cut stuff with the factory edge. It's not unusable. Just nowhere near how other $75 factory knives will cut. The real perk here is the design. I trust this knife to carry more than others because the lock-up is very unique and strong, impossible to close on your fingers even under a very strong impact. And the cross guard prevents your fingers from slipping, and it's really a smooth and easy knife to deploy rapidly for such a large knife (after you break it in for a few days). With this knife you merely tolerate the steel, and enjoy the operation and heft. If you want something similar but with better steel, the regular serrated versions all use Aus8 or 12c27 steel which is much better and generally arrives with a better grind as well. The Veff serration versions are all 1.4116 steel, which I have found to be rather inconsistent, wherever they get it from or machine it. Unfortunately most of the Aus8 or 12c27 versions either lack a large cross guard or have inferior handle materials (ie, nylon instead of g10). So it's preference which you'd rather have; the better steel or the better handle.

Durability, Reliability, Question
I’ve owned the CRKT EDC Folding Pocket Knife for years, and it has consistently exceeded my expectations. This knife is built for durability and functionality, and it shows in every aspect of its design and performance. The black serrated tanto blade is incredibly sharp and versatile, making it ideal for a wide range of tasks, from daily utility to more demanding work. The blade has held its edge remarkably well over time, it does require sharpening even after years of regular use which is a given. The automated liner safety adds an extra layer of security, giving me peace of mind when carrying or using it. The G10 handle is both tough and comfortable to grip, even in challenging conditions. I also appreciate the dual hilt design, which offers excellent control and prevents my hand from slipping. The 4-position pocket clip is another thoughtful feature, allowing me to carry it exactly how I prefer. This knife has been part of my daily carry for years, and it still functions flawlessly. The build quality is outstanding especially for the price and it’s clear that CRKT designed this knife to last. Whether you’re looking for a reliable EDC tool or a knife for more specialized tasks, the M16-14SFG is an excellent choice. Highly recommended for anyone seeking durability, performance, and overall great quality!

Sweet Sweet Knife
I was spending a ton of time doing research on the knife that I wanted. Everyone has their tastes and preferences including me so it was a bit much looking for just the right one with the right feel out of the millions of knives out there. I was looking for a sharp, sturdy knife. One that will take a beating and will not fall apart. I was actually considering the cold steel recon and then somebody referred me to CRKT and man I was glad they did. The the price this knife was it. Out of the box, it had a really nice feel. The grip feels good, and the blade is just amazing. I am aware that the veff serrations tend to dull out or the tips bend after certain usage. I've been using mine for 2 months now on various things ranging from cardboard, ropes to wood and plastic and everything in between and this knife still chews through it all. I bought a sharpener with it to keep it stupid sharp and I know that this thing will last me a very very long time. Pros. -Grip feels just right, mind that this knife is slightly bigger than your average pocket knife, but I have big hands so it works out perfectly. -After broken in, for a non-spring assisted knife this one has sssuuuccchh a crisp sound when flipped open. -Looks like a fixed blade when opened, and also helps prevent hands from slipping onto blade when in use. -Looks great -Incredibly sturdy. Asides from regular use, I've thrown, dropped, tossed, bent this thing and it still opens the same, no wiggling anywhere whatsoever. The entire knife still completely intact with nothing loose. I took a friends CRKT, non serrated, I stuck both of these into a tree staggered and we climbed up the tree using those knives. we put our entire weight on those, hung from them and still afterwards, functioned like it just came out of the box (I am 5'11" and weigh in at 180lbs). Minus the paint obviously gone in some places from wear and tear. I love this knife and would recommend it to anyone!

One heck of an all arounder
I have tested this knife for a month or so now, and it has come out strong. The blade is nice and thick, AUS-8 steel is awesome and holds an adge for a long time (I havent sharpened it yet, because I dont need to! Like a razor still!). The dual flippers function as a hilt so you dont have to worry about you hand slipping up on the blade (you know, if something has to be done). It is a well balanced knife. You rest the center of the knife on your finger and it balances surprisingly well. Of course it has that G-10 handle that I found to be adaquatly grippy, and you can also strike matches on it (usefull sometimes)! This CRKT M-16 is a pretty big knife too. When I bought it I was wrorried that it may not fit in my pocket. It does (thankfully) fit in my pocket just fine though. You will have to be carefull when and where you whip it out. This thing is big enough to scare your tipical left winger into calling the police. I carry this knife for rugged use (defense, chopping, cutting heavy material), then I carry my Kershaw Blur (highly recomended) in the case I need it when left wingers are around (wouldnt want to scare them!). I find the tanto pointed blade handy whenever I need to do more delicate work. It is like having a mini razor on the end of the blade! Verry usefull (for me at least). Alot of people will be wondering about the locking mechanism on this knife, and all I have to say is: its impressive. The lock has never shown any inclanation of failing, even when put under great stress (you know, like stabbing full force into a sheet of plywood, which it puched through without bending the blade or the lock). Now thats the good. The only bad thing about this knife is the serrations. As you may have read in other reveiws, the Veff serations chip when put under hard use. I was trying to saw through a cedar branch when mine first started chipping. The good thing though, is that they only chip to a certain degree. The tips of the serations on my CRKT M-16 have almost completely chipped off, but it still saws through branches just as easily as it did before! Hows that for a rugged knife! So if you are looking for a BAD looking knife to show off to your friends, or maybe just a heavy duty folder to act as a pocket survival knife, look no further. The only thing I wouldnt do with this knife is sell it.
