The clock and the timer both tick. The clock is relatively quiet though, can only hear it of you are pretty close to it. And it hangs on the wall. Although it is pretty light, so if you did attach magnets I'm sure it could work on the fridge.

it does not stand on its own. It is a wall mount! It is a well made clock, even though I was slightly disappointed in it. I asumed it was metal and when it arrived being an all plastic piece, I was slightly let down. However, no where does it say metal, nor do they try to pass this prclock off as metal? I let my imagination tell me it was. It is a well made clock, that hangs on a wall.
