diferrence between apales jr and apple to apple for kids

I think they are the same thing - only "for kids" has fewer cards in a smaller box. When I pulled up Apples to Apples Kids on Amazon, it actually said Jr. on the box in the picture. But I have Junior and it is a large box with tons of cards. There are even simpler worded cards than Jr. in the Disney version, 7&Up version, etc. I use Jr. with my 6th graders and it is perfect - without any unwanted cultural references like the regular "adult" game. Hope that helps.

My grandson is 5 years old. Is that appropriate for his age?

Yes! Our six year old grandson loves playing the game with the family! I think a five year old could be helped to get it easily!

Which Apples to Apples game has the photographs rather than words on the red cards?

I think it's "Big Picture Apples to Apples". The junior version only has words, but easier than the adult version. I think it's in a blue box.

We play this game a lot with our grandchildren. Are there any new card sets to update our game? Or does the newest edition have new cards?

Each version has different cards. So the standard, the junior, and the travel set, etc. are all different.
