Do I need to ask my partner permission to use this on then while they sleep?

If you have to ask then you’ve already got your answer. Don’t touch people without permission. If they don’t know you’re going to do it you might scare them awake.

How do the numbers relate to the division markers? They are printed in between so I don't know what they mean, how to read it correctly.

Well if it’s in the middle of say 8 and 9 that would make it 8 1/2. When in doubt go up because it’s not gonna fit of you go smaller.
