Maybe a dumb question, but can I wear while i surf?

I asked my son, and he says yes. The tie can be as close to the chin as you need. Hope this helps.

How good is the sun coverage?

Pretty good. My son loves this hat and it definitely keeps his head from getting sunburned.

Does this hat have a sweat band and if so what is it made of?

Not in the traditional sports-cap sense. The entire inner brim is padded so it definitely helps wick sweat. The hat is quite good for long days out paddling.
