When is the best time to plant shrubs?

The best time to plant shrubs is in autumn or early spring when the soil is moist but not waterlogged. This allows roots to establish before hot or frosty weather.

Do shrubs need pruning?

Light pruning once a year helps maintain shape and encourages new growth. Prune after flowering for spring-flowering shrubs and in late winter for summer bloomers.

Can I grow shrubs in containers?

Yes, many compact or slow growing shrubs thrive in pots. Use a quality compost and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.

How can I encourage flowering?

Plant in the correct position, feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring, and avoid over-pruning flower buds.

Are shrubs suitable for wildlife gardens?

Absolutely! Many shrubs provide nectar, shelter, and berries for birds and pollinators throughout the year.
