Deluxe two CD edition includes bonus CD containing rare b-sides and previously unreleased demos. Digitally remastered edition. Stone Temple Pilots roared on to the scene 25 years ago with their raucous debut Core. A breakout success, the album peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts, dominated radio waves with hits like "Sex Type Thing" and "Wicked Garden," and has been certified 8x Platinum by the RIAA. The band also took home the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance for their smash single "Plush." Core, as a debut album, displayed the band's attempt to revive the album-oriented music approach of the 1970s. Striving to create an intense and emotional sound, vocalist Scott Weiland has said that the main theme of the album is that humanity is confused, with songs like "Sex Type Thing" and "Naked Sunday" dealing with social injustice. Review: I like the other person that posted a review - I like the other person that posted a review, had this album as a staple of my youth. I am now in my 40s, but this album still gets played several times a year. The packaging and layout of the boxset are thought out and had some good thought put into the set. The sound is great, what a great treat it is to have these live tracks as well as the demos. The first thing I played was the 5.1 version of the album. I was blown away by the quality of the 5.1 mix. Not a 5.1 gimmick mix, but a good way to listen to the album. I wish the album was numbered as it is a limited release, but that is ok. The price of under 60.00 was a good deal for what you got in the boxset. Would of liked to seen a blu-ray over a DVD, but again very minor. Review: CORE CORE CORE! HOW DO YOU LIKE IT/HOW DO YOU LIKE IT! - Loved the set. The remastered album actually sounds great-excellent EQ. The LP is nice because it's all on one disc. Cool tracks, the cover of Bowie's "Andy Warhol" is a prieview of Scott's artistic expansion. The Deleo Bros musicianship is on full display. One of the best debut albums of all of our beloved 90s groups. The live performances were beautifully recorded. I recommend highly....

A pleasant suprise.
I had originally owned Core on cassette back at the time of its original release. I'd never replaced it because for a long time the mainstays of that album were constantly available on alt rock radio. Not so much the case now, so I looked to see if Amazon had it. Lo and behold STP put together put this 25th anniversary collection out. The original album along with alt takes and single B-sides. There are two great live sets from 1993 included (one including an early version of Lounge Fly from Purple). To cap it off you have STP's MTV Unplugged performance in its entirety. A treasure trove for the amount you'll pay. I look forward to Purple getting the same treatment later this year. If it's half as good as thus was I'll buy day 1.

Excellent CD set
Original recordings of Core re-released plus acoustic recordings. Plush is one of my favorite rock songs. Rest in peace Scott, you left us way too soon Brother. You Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington and many others have to be rocking the heavens.

Rocks me to my Core
Having owned and rocked to this album on red book and DVD Audio for over two decades I had to have this anniversary set that includes the two mentioned disc formats that I own but also the vinyl that I did not. The vinyl sounds fantastic. I have not yet listened to the 5.1 disc as I would like to do a side by side with the DVDA disc. Hope all STP albums receive this treatment. Cheers. RIP Weiland, one hard Core Mo Fo.

Great box set
Really nice box set with vinyl and 4 CDs. I was able to get at a great price too. The live CD and the MTV Unplugged are mandatory for any die hard STP fan. Well worth it.

STP Core Collection
Disc one contains the remastered original album on Vinyl. Disc two contains previously unreleased demos and alternate versions. Disc three features 1993 live performances at England's Reading Festival and California's Castaic Lake Natural Amphitheater. Disc four is the band's 1993 MTV Unplugged session. The DVD includes a surround-sound mix of Core and the original music videos.

Beautifully packaged reissue, really good job by Rhino. STP would get better, much better, but this is a strong documentation of stage 1. There's little here that longtime fans won't have already but a complete recording of Only Dying plus a cleaned up Castaic show are worthy. The remaster appears to be almost the same as the 2000 DVD Audio release, well worth having although, as the demos show, the band's sound was already fully formed. All in all, I'm very happy with this and hope we get something similar for all the later and better releases up to 2001.
