I needed to replace an isolation tap on a 1/4" plastic line to a fridge. The original one is a brass one, which I though would last forever, but that is connected directly to the copper piping and given where it is it would have been a problem to replace. With this is was a quick snip of the plastic line (obviously turn the water off first and then make sure you have turned a tap on so that the pressure is released, and then try draining water out of your fridge) just ensure that you cut the ends square, not at an angle. Push the ends in, put the clips in place and check that it doesn't leak. It is a very easy peace of plumbing and so far this is working fine for me (lets me isolate the water flow so I can replace the external water filters that my fridge uses).

This tap is satisfyingly stiff to turn, knowing that when it's off, it's off. It's connected up fine with the hose from my Samsung fridge and is nice and accessible, saving me having to move the fridge to turn the water off to change the water filter.

This was super easy to hook up. I didn’t have to do any fight with screws or caps. It just works.

Quando ho aperto questo rubinetto in linea da 0,6 cm la prima impressione è stata quella di un pezzo molto semplice, quasi “nascosto” del sistema. È uno di quei componenti che non noti mai finché non ti serve davvero, ma che in realtà è fondamentale per gestire l’acqua. Appena l’ho preso in mano, si capisce subito che è un accessorio tecnico ma molto basico. È leggero, compatto, fatto per essere inserito nei tubi LLDPE dei sistemi di frigoriferi o impianti a osmosi inversa. Non è un oggetto da vedere, ma da usare e dimenticare. Nell’installazione l’ho usato su una linea acqua per un sistema di filtraggio. La cosa positiva è che si monta facilmente: tagli il tubo, lo inserisci e la chiusura funziona subito. Una volta installato, permette di interrompere il flusso d’acqua senza dover smontare tutto l’impianto. La cosa che funziona meglio è proprio la praticità: avere un punto di chiusura rapido sulla linea è comodissimo, soprattutto se devi cambiare filtri o fare manutenzione al sistema di osmosi o al frigorifero. Però ci sono anche dei limiti. La sensazione generale è che sia un componente molto economico: funziona, ma non trasmette grande robustezza. La leva di apertura/chiusura è piccola e va usata con attenzione, senza forzare. Un altro punto è che, come molti pezzi di questo tipo, dipende tantissimo da come viene montato: se il tubo non è inserito bene o il taglio non è preciso, può perdere o non chiudere perfettamente. In generale è un accessorio piccolo ma utile: non cambia l’impianto, ma lo rende molto più gestibile. È una di quelle cose che non fanno effetto, ma senza cui ogni manutenzione diventa più complicata.
