Shin Gyeong Suk (Shin Kyung-sook), author of bestselling novel "Lijin" creates a heartbroken and elegant story with a stereotypical mother who invisibly stands behind her children as her sons and daughters, who depend on her so much, push her away. "Please Look After Mom" begins with a family searching for their missing mother at a subway station in Seoul. They were visiting from a small country village... This novel is translated into English and published on 4/5/2011 by Knopf and is featured on the NYT Books on 3/30/2011. It debuted on desertcart at #15 on 4/5/2011. In Korean. Distributed by Tsai Fong Books, Inc. Review: Loved the book - Thoughtful and poignant story of Mom. Although it's based in Korea, it's a story all children can relate to about their mother. Each character in the book gets to tell their story. Loved the book. I had a hard time convincing myself to save it so I could enjoy reading it the next night. Review: Amazingly Written - I was gifted the English version for Christmas and as I was reading it I realized that my mom would love a version in her home language and she immediately cried when she received it. We both enjoyed it and for the first time we had a book to discuss with one another. It was thought evoking and beautiful.

Moving tale, regardless of your ethnic background.
Having grown up in the same era as the children in this book, I saw glimpses of my own mother through this missing mother. All the sacrifices and unwavering devotion of this mother towards her children are not at all unusual maternal behaviors, in Korea or elsewhere around the world. However, Ms. Shin's novel lets you see these common behaviors with uncommon perspectives. She makes you gain a new sense of appreciation for everything you took for granted about your mother.
