This 1828 facsimile reprint of the first American Dictionary documents the quality of Biblical education which raised up American statesmen capable of forming our Constitutional Republic. Webster traced roots in twenty-six languages, and gives examples from classical literature and the Bible. Comprehensive introductions are presented for language and grammar. It has been described by one Christian scholar as "the greatest reprint of the twentieth century." The added biography by Rosalie Slater, "Noah Webster, Founding Father of American Scholarship and Education," describes his contribution to many fields and records his conversion to Christ. Review: Best dictionary for the English language! - Best dictionary in the world for the English language. Very high quality. I have the hard back version. Review: A Monument to Language and Virtue: The Unparalleled Contribution of the 1828 Webster's Dictionary - The 1828 Webster's Dictionary stands as an unparalleled work in American lexicography, serving as both a comprehensive repository and an educational arsenal. Its collection of terms is extensive and discerning, providing a lucid and accurate exposition of the English language. Etymological insights and precise definitions offer a profound understanding of words, making it an invaluable resource for scholars, students, and the general populace alike. Noah Webster's work contributes significantly to the advancement of knowledge and the refinement of linguistic expression. Moreover, the Christian grounding of this dictionary sets it apart as more than just a linguistic tool; it serves as a guide for virtuous and godly communication. Its definitions often incorporate ethical and scriptural principles, offering a holistic approach to language that enriches not just the mind, but the soul. In this way, the 1828 Webster's Dictionary stands as a monumental contribution to both the spiritual and intellectual edification of its users, making it an unparalleled asset to both the church and the republic of letters.

The Most Important English Dictionary to own
There is no dictionary that get to the heart of English meaning as clearly as this first Webster's dictionary. Particularly for students of the King James version of the Bible, or text from the 1700's and 1800's (for example the Constitution of the United States, the Federalist Papers, The Book of Mormon etc.) this is essential to understand the meaning of those writings as they were meant to mean at the time, absent of additional connotations and twists modern vernacular has added to some words. Every home, school, and church library should have this book present and available for every student to access. Its value is rank as all of Shakespeare's plays combined in its instruction and edification of the English language.

Truth about words. Next to the Bible, everyone needs this Dictionary in their homes!
The first 27 pages need to be read by all. It includes The Dedication - the Seed Of The Giant Sequoia, page 3 (the Sequoia trees were around before Jesus was born in Bethlehem (Bet - lechem), Hebrew for House of Bread. Jesus is the Bread of Life) - title page - two sections on the dictionary itself - NOAH WEBSTER'S 1828 DICTIONARY NEEDED TO RESTORE AN AMERICAN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION IN THE HOME, THE CHURCH AND THE SCHOOL and NOAH WEBSTER FOUNDING FATHER OF AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIP AND EDUCATION. The book is literally 8-1/2 inches wide x 11 inches tall and 2-1/2 inches thick. Weighs over 6.2 pounds. All measurements are my own. The book was well packed. Came a week earlier than stated. It is a big and heavy book but opens very nicely and lays flat. The pages are not too thin and no text from the back side shows through. After the first 27 pages there are 88 pages of his picture, preface, INTRODUCTION and a section called Philosophical and Practical Grammar of the English language. The INTRODUCTION is absolutely amazing. Should be made available as a free pdf. The total book is over 2000 pages.

For when they remove websites/Family Heirloom
I bought this for when they decide to ban this book online or in print. I consider it to be a family heirloom now. It is really big and nice. I like it. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Romans 3:23 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 โNow we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.โ Romans 3:19-20 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9-10

An absolute MUST for homeschooling families!
This is an absolute MUST for homeschooling families! It really taught us the value, root, and meaning of words as kids, and I wish every family could own one!

Will be of great value.
Thank you so much over there in Virginia: this is one beautiful dictionary and was amazed at the speed it arrived. This will help me greatly in the study of Gods word through the K.J.V. It shows just how watered down our language has become. And it was worth the money. God bless you and keep up the good work from me in Scotland.

Epic Dictionary.
This volume will go along well with my 1599 Geneva Bible-Patriot's Edition as well as my several King James Version Bibles. For some reason I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to buy it now on April 4th of 2026.

Good resource
I got this to help me understand the King James Bible better as some of the words aren't commonly used anymore and others are used differently now than in 1611. Very useful.
