I have owned spyderco knives for years but this is the first time I have tried one of their Byrd knives. I wish I would have tried them years ago. The Cara Cara 2 arrived in a green and black box, as opposed to the blue and black and red and black of all of my other spyderco knives. The box is neatly labeled and informative but isn't very flashy if you were looking to put it in a store display. I revolved the knife and held it and was instantly reminded of an Endura. The blade was scalpel sharp and free from any defects. The blade is a bit thinner than in my other spyderco knives. The blade locked solidly into place and was easy to open with either hand. The locking mechanism is placed near the middle of the handle and features the a small cutout on the lock which is a common spyderco feature that helps keep the knife from unlocking during use. The handle was made of a black plastic with a tread pattern that is much simpler in nature than other spyderco models. It does not look bad and provides as good of a grip as any other plastic knife. The clip is removable and has multiple mounting locations. The quality of the knife overall seems very good, not the same quality as a Japanese or American spyderco but seems much more solid than any other $20 Chinese knife. The handle and blade aren't as finely finished when compared to a spyderco, but it is a fifth of the cost too, so I don't feel it's an issue. I bought this to try out as a edc knife after losing my second spyderco native (my favorite model of all time with the worst clip design) and it is a little bigger than I was hoping for but that is my fault for not reading the description. For a $20+\- knife this is awesome. A very solid locking design with a sharp blade and a easy to grip handle. I will try to update the review after using it for awhile, but as it stands now this seems like a great, affordable, working man's knife. At the same price of a $20 Walmart Kershaw or SOG you get a much better built knife. Pros: Value, weight, design Cons: none so far Update: Having received this knife just before Thanksgiving, I was afforded the opportunity to test it out on some black Friday packaging materials. I picked up a new car stereo and a few sets of Kobalt tools from Lowes to leave in my jeep permanently and I had to cut into half a dozen or so cardboard boxes and the same amount of those annoying plastic blister packs that just about everything seems to be packaged in these days. This knife cut through all of them as if it were a hot knife through butter. The edge seemed to be as good after a weekend of regular use as it was when I bought it. If I could add another star I would. For a cheap knife, I don't believe you can find one better.

UPDATED REVIEW: Recently purchased my 3rd one of these. Still have all 3 and am extremely satisfied with performance and quality. The 1st one swapped places with a plain blade version and has been part of my scuba gear loadout as my backup with lanyard attached to belt clip and carried in BC pocket for 100 plus dives and it sees regular use . Gets washed and cleaned with the rest of the gear at the end of the day. No rust to-date. The 2nd is now my EDC since my girlfriend kept nagging me [She didn't want the ugly combo blade for peeling apples] for a knife while camping. The 3rd is part of my emergency preparedness and response kit. A comment about some of the reviews: It seems like some like to moan and groan about the quality of foreign made goods. In the case of this product it is made to Spyderco's specifications for them in China. The reason why it's made there is simple cost of manufacturing. Made in the USA doesn't mean it wasn't made with foreign materials like Chinese Steel. If you want the Made in the USA label spend the Buck. Yes these are less expensive and they don't have the Spyderco stamp. For what the equivalent Spyderco Name Brand knife costs I can buy 4 or 5 of these. Original Post: Outstanding knife for the price [$25]. Lower cost version of higher end Spyderco knives. I carry this thing everywhere and use it almost daily. Well made lock-back knife. Replaced lost Spyderco high end version [$100]. Seems to be holding its edge quite well. I'm a happy camper as they say.

This knife is awesome! I love it! I also own a Byrd Meadowlark 2, which I use often. The Cara Cara 2 is quite a bit larger. For me, it is simply too large for pocket carry. I don't usually like knives with serrations, but I like to keep a couple of them around, which is why I ordered this one. Plus, it was cheaper than the non-serrated version when I ordered it. It's a very smooth operating knife. As soon as I depress the lockback mechanism on the spine, the blade immediately drops down. Make sure your fingers are clear of the blade when you do this! I got a nasty cut the first time I did this! Very sharp, I discovered, right out of the box. This knife is a total no-brainer. Great quality at a fantastic price. I mainly carry this knife if I'm out late at night walking our greyhound. For some reason, there are always sketchy, random dudes walking around at night. A girl has to have protection!

I have a few smaller Byrd knives and a number of Spyderco knives. In general the Byrd knives are good quality and a good bang for your buck. The Cara Cara 2 is equal in size the Spyderco Endura. Pros: This model has very effective jimping on both the top and the bottom of the blade near the scales. It came sharp and seems to be holding it's edge. For the cost invested, I am not too worried about misplacing or damaging it. The locking mechanism is very secure. Cons: The blade is thinner that the Endura and Chinese steel. The blade movement is stiffer so one handed operation takes a tiny bit more effort. I bought this knife as an everyday tool that I was not too worried about damaging or losing. It easily fits that role for me. I would buy another at the price I paid if I misplace or destroy this one.

This steel is terrible. The edge chipped after cutting cardboard. I’ve had my spyderco for 10 years and it’s a tank. I thought since Spyderco made Byrd that it would be decent but I was mistaken.

seriously good knife for a good price. very solid hinge, lock. when extended, it feels like a one piece knife. I wasn't sure about the partial serration but it makes cutting cord, packing straps, etc really easy. the handle is a bit cheap feeling but its very non-slippery. I've also used it while wearing leather working gloves, and found it quite good. as a lefty, I like that you can reverse the clip. blade holds its edge well, and a couple strokes on a ceramic V sharpener dresses it nicely. my wife and adult daughter both have trouble with one hand opening, and unlocking it to fold, so I'd say this is a knife for a man's hands.

Well, the title of my review says it all really. The knife they sent me is indeed a Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara 2, but be warned, the knife you get looks nothing like the knife pictured in the listing. The knife has a black, hard (what feels like) plastic handle, not a metal handle as pictured. Also, the blade has a serrated edge as well as a straight edge, also not pictured. I suppose the description gives some hint to all of this, but I feel like the picture attached to the listing is incredibly misleading. However, the knife I received is very solid, durable and sharp (as well as larger than I expected, which is not a bad thing). Also, the folding/locking action is very smooth & clean.

Ich habe schon viel über die Byrd Serie von Spyderco gelesen und gesehen und wollte nun auch mal selber Hand anlegen.Da ich in der Vergangenheit schon Erfahrungen mit den Marken Ganzo, Enlan und Real Steel gemacht habe , dachte ich mir ich versuch mal ein Cara Cara 2 . Es sollte ein Messer für den groben Outdooreinsatz sein, also nix zum lieb haben.Im Prinzip kommt das Cara Cara daher wie ein aufgeblasenes Delica. Erster Schock beim Auspacken...der Glatte Teil der Klinge hat einen Einseitigen Anschliff. Das ist bei Taktischen Messern oft üblich ( siehe CRKT). Ich mag das aber eigentlich nicht. Gut ich geb ihm aber noch eine Chance! Der Rest ist gut ausgestattet. Bronze Gleitscheiben, guter Clip und weicher Klingengang. Gute Schärfe im Auslieferungszustand. Der Backlock rastet gut ein hat aber ein Micromü Spiel. Da bin ich halt total empfindlich. Aber es ist eben in dem Preisbereich mit einem Backlock schwer. Es gibt ganz wenige Hersteller welche das sauber hin bekommen.Ein Liner oder Framelock verzeiht eben doch mehr Fertigungstoleranz.Das Messer ist für seine Größe sehr leicht. Ein Vorteil gegenüber dem etwa gleich großen Endura von Spyderco ist der "Choil" auf dem der Zeigefinger ruhen kann wenn man zum Beispiel Schnitzen möchte.Die Griffschalen sind gut, muten aber gegenüber dem Endura oder Delica etwas billig an. Negativ finde ich das das "Spydihole" was beim Cara Cara die Form eines Vogelkopfes darstellen soll ,sehr scharfkantig ist... das tut beim Öffnen schon fast weh. Also Alles in Allem ist das Messer gut. Wer das Design von Spyderco mag aber keine 100 oder 200 Euro ausgeben will, hat mit dem Cara Cara 2 ein gutes Messer mit einigen wenigen Schönheitsfehlern.Selbst der einseitige Klingenschliff hat seine Vorteile. Wenn ich in Zukunft also in die Verlegenheit komme mit dem Messer buddeln zu müssen weil mir beim Angeln die Würmer ausgegangen sind, nehme ich das Cara Cara. Mit meinem Para Military würde ich mir da lieber einen Finger abschneiden und den an den Haken hängen :-) bevor mein kleiner Liebling Kratzer bekommt. (Das war nicht ganz ernst gemeint !)

La navaja corta de maravilla, tanto el filo serrado como el liso. Es mas grande de lo que parece y un poco ancha por el mecanismo de apertura que tiene. Los acabados del mango no son premiun y es una especie de plastico aunque esta bien terminado y bien atornillado. Lo recomiendo 100%
