Yes, this barley is food grade. It has been thoroughly cleaned. It is suitable for brewing or great in soups & stews. Because the hull is still in tact, it does require 24 hours of soaking prior to cooking.

Is the hull edible, or do I need to remove something prior to cooking?

Well, the hull is tough so it is inedible, but it could be used to make roasted barley, for example, then mill it and use it as a form of coffee. Some people also just boil the seeds and use the liquid as a tea for health uses.
