Question 1

Terrific product. ad photo shows aa battery, at least one feedback comment states aaa. which is correct?thanks.

Accepted Answer

As of March 2022, the Product descriptions show that both of the lantern models (140 lumens and 400 lumens) use AA batteries and the headlamps and flashlights use AAA batteries. It's unclear why a Vont Customer Service representative would say otherwise unless the lanterns have changed since November of 2019. Unfortunately, the Q&A section seems to cover multiple products; but the product descriptions are very clear concerning batteries.

Question 2

Where is it made? I see the dumb answer (made between New York and London) below but really, where is it made?

Accepted Answer

It costs only $13 so it's made in China, if it was made in New York it would cost $130, if London $230 :)

Question 3

Where is the on/off switch for this lantern?

Accepted Answer

Just disassembled mine to make the lens "frosty" instead of clear (keep from burning my retinas!). There's a microswitch on top of the battery compartment. A long spring connected to the LED array presses against the switch to turn it off--extending obviously releases the switch. The battery compartment cover can be installed in 4 positions (rotating 90 degrees between). If not in the correct one of the 4, the spring would never press the normally-closed switch (opening the circuit and turning off the light). If your doesn't turn off, I'd suspect wrong orientation of the cover plate or that the spring has fallen off. Either would be a pretty simple fix. Curiously, I also found the long center screw was installed upside down. The bottom end plastic is shaped to capture the nut. It made initially disassembly slightly more difficult (you'll need a 7mm socket or open-ended wrench).

Question 4

Can you adjust the brightness of this lantern?

Accepted Answer

Not able to adjust power level, just the amount of exposed LEDs. This is unfortunate because the battery power is being consumed the same whether you have the lantern open just a bit or all the way. Would make more sense to just be able to toggle off some of the LEDs in low power setting(s) and thus extend battery life. This is a cost-saving measure by the manufacturer as the electronics to vary the power levels add to the cost. IOW, you get what you pay for... lol
