I'm more of a castle fan than a Harry Potter fan, so that's the angle of this review. There are only a few Lego builds that don't give me the urge to modify them, sometimes even before I'm done; it means that I'm engaging with the build, not that I find it "wrong" in any way. With this one, I decided to leave out some Harry-potter specific details, such as the flying carriage, whomping willow, and astronomy tower, and replaced the Durmstrang ship with a reef of grey slopes. The chambers on the back side are neat and totally add to the Harry Potter story. With some of the "silly" side-towers removed, the buildings look more like cathedrals than a castle optimized for defence, but it isn't meant to be a "normal" castle anyway. It totally has the "monumental complex on a rock" impact. Microscale requires clever parts use to convey details. The delicate prints on some of the small parts to represent windows and doors are pretty exquisite, but there are lots of other ways the designers added 3-dimensional structure to the surfaces of the buildings. Therefore, the high parts count of this set is due to the many small elements. I really like the gorge with the brook between the two sets of buildings and all the bridges crossing it at various angles. Unfortunately, the longest bridge is held together by some pretty flimsy connections; better not touch it by accident. The undercarriage of the whole complex is also a bit crumbly as I found out when trying to build in my lap. I wish Lego had used fewer larger plates as a base, rather than the greater number of smaller ones. Building on a solid, flat surface will prevent this; therefore I'm not deducting stars for that. Like many other large builds, it is hollow inside. Most internal bricks that aren't visible on the outside are in different bright colours, which really helps with figuring out what goes where. The various paths and trees nestled among the rocks really add to the setting, and the end result is stunning. The square look is broken up really nicely by attaching the hall near the main tower at an angle. It might not be the right build for someone who is wowed mostly by size, but I recommend it for folks looking for intricate detail. Although geared towards adults, it would be suitable for patient teenagers that aren't looking primarily for play features or minifigures (although it comes with a golden Architect of Hogwarts minifigure).

O set é lindo! Super detalhado, de uma tamanho legal quando montado e a montagem não é difícil, mas também não é super simples. A entrega foi ótima. Chegou no prazo, completo e sem amassados na caixa!

Its a good lego set for any harry potter fan. Simple enough to put together but takes a little while, ends up looking really great. Pretty good size though, probably 1 ft x 2 ft. Age appropriate and worth it
