Question 1

How do I determine the correct size for my fireplace flue?

Accepted Answer

Measure your flue's interior and choose a Flueblocker the same size or slightly larger. The wool pad pressure-fits and can be trimmed with scissors. Use the sizing guide to match your flue shape—round, square, or rectangular.

Question 2

How difficult is installation? Do I need any special tools or supports?

Accepted Answer

Choose an install spot you can reach by hand. Measure with a tape or ruler. A narrow area above the firebox is ideal. For higher spots, use 6” handle extenders to place the wool pad securely.

Question 3

Will the product completely block cold drafts, odors, and heat loss?

Accepted Answer

When fitted correctly, the FlueBlocker stops heating/cooling loss, drafts and odors from a dormant chimney. To eliminate odor, make sure you vacuum out all the ash from the firebox and seal any ash chute or outside intake attached to the firebox.

Question 4

Which is right for my situation – a FlueBlocker or a Chimney Balloon?

Accepted Answer

The Flueblocker is a durable, reusable chimney plug that handles moisture and is ideal for long-term use. The Chimney Balloon offers a tight seal and a breakaway feature for safety if a fire is lit accidentally.

Question 5

How durable is the material? Is it worth the price?

Accepted Answer

Chimney is harsh, moist, acidic environments. The Flueblocker uses coarse ionized Herdwick wool and durable resin hardware to seal air, wick moisture and resist odors. Chimney Balloons use a heat-reactive laminate to withstand chimney air conditions.
