“I love this book. I was even thinking about a tour of trees around the world because of this book.”—Oprah Winfrey A visually stunning journey into the diversity and wonders of forests. In his international bestseller The Hidden Life of Trees , Peter Wohlleben opened readers’ eyes to the amazing processes at work in forests every day. Now this new, breathtakingly illustrated edition brings those wonders to life like never before. With compelling, abridged selections from the original book and stunning, large-format photographs of trees from around the world, this gorgeous volume distills the essence of Wohlleben’s message to show trees in all their glory and diversity. Through rich language highlighting the interconnectedness of forest ecosystems, the book offers fascinating insights about the fungal communication highway known as the “wood wide web,” the difficult life lessons learned in tree school, the hard-working natural cleanup crews that recycle dying trees, and much more. Beautiful images provide the perfect complement to Wohlleben’s words, with striking close-ups of bark and seeds, panoramas of vast expanses of green, and a unique look at what is believed to be the oldest tree on the planet. Published in Partnership with the David Suzuki Institute Review: Perfect coffee table book - We got this as a house warming gift. Its perfect for a coffee table. Really high quality pictures inside and still a good read on nature. Looks good + useful Review: This book will change how you look or think about trees and other living plants - The Hidden Life of Trees, illustrated version, is an exceptional book for yourself, and a fine and intelligent gift for people 10-100+. The photography is breathtaking, and the writing and knowledge is deep and transformative. I cannot look at trees and their network of companions and helpers in anything like my former state of awe, but profound ignorance. I never understood why insects bit a piece of leaf and left, but now I understand why they flee. My heart goes out to the trees stuck next to streets and sidewalks, without any awareness of how their lives are stilted by the choice of location. And massive trucks, with their tank-like wheels, that roll in to cut and harvest after fires, or just anytime, CRUSHING and Compacting the soil, so MUCH less water will get to the newly planted, or current living things that make up any healthy natural environment. Anyone to whom I have ever gifted this illustrated version has been amazed at the wonders within. Never goes out of style, always nurturing to you and the world. Enjoy!

What a fabulous Book!
I couldn't put this book down! For years I have joked that I was a tree in another life. I have always loved trees! Now, in my seventh decade I finally found this book! It reads like a novel yet it is is so much more than a novel. I laughed. I cried not only for the people but for the trees! Not a first for me but a first in a book! I also learned so much about trees because the author took the time to explain about her passion for trees. What she went through as a woman in a field where women were not welcome. It was also a story about family. I read the book a couple of years ago but as I am writing this review I remember her strength and commitment, the strong bond she had with her brother, how she persevered and became a renowned academic despite odds that were against a woman in an almost exclusively male field. I bought the book, but read it on kindle because it was the only way I could read it (weight and I need the back lit kindle to read.) It took me more than a year to loan the physical book to a friend. Everyone I've recommended it to has loved it! So take a chance. It's remarkable! It will open your mind and heart in a new way. You may even fall in love. It's worth the weight if you get your books from the library. Find a comfortable chair or a shady tree to shelter you. Settle in, buckle up and enjoy!

IN LOVE. My new book to gift
I heard of this book through On Point (Ashbrook had an interview with Wohlleben) and was immediately fascinated by the information and knowledge Wohlleben has on trees. I bought the audiobook and enjoyed it so much, I decided to buy copies of this book to friends and family. I saw this book recently came out as an illustrated edition, and decided to get a copy to see if it was worth the extra $. TOTALLY WORTH IT. The information is in there, but so are absolutely stunning pictures. Many 'coffee table books' like this one do not make it engaging to read, however, this book was formatted in a way that makes it very easy (not overwhelming) to open a random page, start reading a few words, and immediately get absorbed into it, all the while not feeling compelled to have to read it all in one sitting (easy to open a random page, read a chapter, a page or a few paragraphs, take in new fascinating information, and come back to it another day). Fantastic Coffee table book, also easily accessible to younger generations. Could not recommend it enough! One of the best (gift) purchase of the year!!!

Incredibly Beautiful and Purposeful
Every single page is a bombshell of beauty, astounding wonder, insight, revelation and the conviction that as a species, we are doomed if we don't wake up and smell the trees. The photography, the narrative - absolutely wonderful, beautiful. So thrilled to have this. The message is the same. We had better wake up.

Stunning photography, well-written and informative.
When this book arrived, I had just made myself a cup of tea and was taking a well-deserved break. Upon opening this book I was immediately struck by how the images selected enhanced the knowledge the author was sharing with his audience. The combination of photographic composition and text seemed to literally take me along on his journey of discovery!

A wonderful companion book
What I missed most in "The Hidden Life of Trees" was pictures of the trees and forests discussed in the book. This illustrated edition of the book would have been the perfect companion. It now has pride of place on our coffee table and it continues to keep the magic alive.
