It’s a reasonable price and Definitely i do need this book for school and after school, that’s why I purchased it rather than rent it. it’s worth it .

The book teaches the material well enough, but they must have hired the laziest editors in the world. Never have I had a textbook with so many errors, and not just misspellings, but entire equations written incorrectly because of an extra term or a missing term, or incorrect subscripts and superscripts. I was unfortunate enough to end up with the first printing, which the errata lists as having no less than fifty errors. Of these, only four are minor, meaning that they don't affect a student's ability to do the problem.So 46/50 errors make it impossible to do a problem or learn an equation correctly. Many of these errors persist in the 2nd printing too. I would not recommend this book to any professors considering it for their course; find another book with better editors.

Mi libro llego algo maltratado, sobre todo golpeado de las esquinas, creo que es debido que solo venia en una bolsa de papel, esto se mejoraría si se usaran cajas, sobre todo en libros de un costo elevado.

The purpose of this book is to "provide an introductory approach to the finite element method that can be understood [...] without the usual prerequisites (such as structural analysis and upper level calculus)". The book achieves this objective very succesfully by starting with the simplest possible structures, in which the finite elements are natural elements of the structure itself (such as frameworks of trusses or beams). It is very easy to see how the equations for each element are combined to form the equations for the structure as a whole and how the equations for each element are derived (such as equations for stiffness and displacement).Once this basic framework is in place the book shows how it can be generalized to three dimensional frameworks, to continuous two and three dimensional objects, to fluid flow and heat flow and to time dependent heat flows.The maths throughout is never more difficult than first or second year university calculus (up to partial differentiation of multivariable functions) and fairly basic matrix equations.Personally I do happen have the mathematical prerequisites for an advanced mathematical approach to finite element methods (including functional analysis, metric spaces and so on) and I have read many advanced treatments of the method in textbooks of numerical analysis or of the numerical methods for differential equations but this is the first book which has given me a really good intuitive understanding of what is going on underneath all the mathematics!
