I was searching for a drain valve for my Bradford White Defender Model RG1PV50S6N (50-gallon) water heater, which supports a traditional 2" shank and 3/4" port. The issue with standard drain valves is that their smaller diameter often prevents larger sediments from being flushed out, especially when the anode rod is corroded or during annual water heater flushing. After doing thorough research, including looking into straight flow valves, I ended up choosing this one due to space constraints. The diameter of the valve knob is noticeably larger than traditional valves, and the build quality is excellent—it's made of solid brass. The on/off knob is heavy and easy to operate, and the cap that comes with it is a nice touch. This is one of the best online purchases I've made. With its excellent functionality and value for money, the annual water heater flushing process is much easier. The seller provided great dimension details, which helped make this a perfect purchase. High quality, is the first thing that I noticed when I opened the box. Its got some nice weight to it as well reassuring you that it is built to last. It also looks very nice too, especially after you have installed it on your water tank. Even comes with a cap as an extra security to prevent any leaks, incase somebody accidentally hits the handle or doesn't fully turn off the valve or something. It's not really a problem, but it's nice to have an extra step of security right. I switched out the generic cheap plastic valve on my water heater for this amazing upgraded valve and I am very happy with this valve. This is also a full open port, so it made flushing my water tank out vastly faster and better too including the harder flow of water making the sediment come out much easier and better. Buy this now for your water tank and you will be much happier like me. It also makes your water tank look nicer and it is made in USA too so it's a win win.

If you know anything about water heaters you would know that they need to be flushed every so often more or less depending on your particular situation. The valves that come with the water heaters are always so tiny which never made any sense and often clog or don’t provide enough water flow to actually push the sediment out of the heater. This bad boy will do the trick, has plenty of water flow and really cut down on the time it takes to remove the sediment. The valve is thick and the handle feels good, it’s well built. It doesn’t have any cheap parts that will just bend or break by the next time you go to flush your heater. Would recommend 👍🏻

Well designed and great quality. Cheaper than putting one together yourself from parts at the home improvement stores. Now to wait and see how well it holds up. Came with a roll of good quality Teflon tape. I bought pipe dope (T+2) as well for $3 and dabbed a thin coat after wrapping it up with tape. You will need a plumber grade pipe wrench if your water heater has a factory fitted drain valve. Some tips: Drain first before attempting to change the valve so you don't cause a leak/break when taking the old one off. After installing, you can then use the turn on/turn off cold water feed valve to agitate and flush. Also, when installing, you may need to either remove the valve handle (removable nut) or move the handle 90 degrees in open position (due to clearance when using tools) so make sure you use the included hose end cap to close the hose end side when installing to prevent accidental discharge. This is a nice upgrade from the factory drain valve for any diligent home owner!

Does help drain your water heater better, but if you have a lime problem it still won't get the lime out. I have to take the lower heater element out, suck the lime out with a wet/dry vacuum, which I have to tape a piece of water hose to my vac tube, in order to get the lime out. The water heater companies don't want to make it easy to deal with the above lime problem...if they did they would put a larger drain on the bottom of your tank.

TLDR: Way better than the stock plastic valve, beefy, it does a great job, use teflon tape. I usually wait a bit for reviews, but I'll forget about this one if I don't, since I won't be using it for 6 month or so. It's WAY better than the cheap plastic valve that my water heater came with. Our heater hadn't been cleaned for years, our water softener had died at some point during that time as well, so our heater was LOADED with calcium deposits. After a full day of trying to drain it with the original valve, I use a 3/4" threaded pipe instead and that cleaned out most if it. I ordered the Home Mods valve to put back in instead of the original plastic valve. It came with threads covered (as pictured, but one both ends) and in decent shape. A little teflon tape and a couple turns with a wrench had it completely installed and not leaking. The valve handle was stiff on initial operation, it was snug but smooth after opening and closing a couple times. I left the thread protector installed, as I suspect it'll get dinged due to it's location in the garage. The handle is normally straight out when open and 90 degrees to the left when closed. I don't see a good way to change that. I would have preferred that the hose outlet portion wasn't turned down, but I'm not taking off a star for that, since it's pretty obvious what you're getting when you order it. Feels like good quality, I'd order more House Mods stuff if I needed it.

Made a flushing water heater a breeze!

Easy to install. I can now drain the water heater much faster then with the OEM water valve. I like the cap for the tap/valve.

Used this to replace the cheap plastic valve that I had on my hot water tank. This new valve opens much wider than the stock and makes draining the tank easier and faster.

I have hard water and I flush my tank every 6 months. The OEM drain would often clog. This drain fit perfectly and never clogs as it has a large and straight opening due to the ball valve.

Easy install and operation,flushed my tank for 10 minutes,all good,do it again in one year,install a new anode rod every 5 years,tank should last 20+ years,i hope.5 stars.
