Limited double vinyl LP pressing. The musical score for Conan the Barbarian was composed and conducted by Basil Poledouris. The film's music mostly conveys a sense of power, energy, and brutality, yet there are tender moments. The sounds of oboes and string instruments accompany Conan and Valeria's intimate scenes, imbuing them with a sense of lush romance and an emotional intensity. Conan the Barbarian is a 1982 American fantasy film co-written and directed by John Milius. It is based on stories by Robert E. Howard, a pulp fiction writer of the 1930s, about the adventures of the eponymous character in a fictional pre-historic world of dark magic and savagery. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Earl Jones, and tells the story of a young barbarian (Schwarzenegger) who seeks vengeance for the death of his parents at the hands of Thulsa Doom (Jones), the leader of a snake cult. Continuing with it's soundtrack reissue campaign UME reissue this title back on standard weight vinyl for the first time in years.

Conan The Barbarian Reborn!
What can be said about this soundtrack that hasn't already been heard? Tadlow Music have done it again and achieved the same result as they have with El Cid. They have produced a classic recording of one of the powerful and famous movie scores ever written. The strength is there, the sweeping romance and impact as fresh as the day it was born and everything is presented with elaborate notes to explain away the track sequence in full. All movie music lovers have chased this as the previous poor collections of tracks have been released to disappoint us all until this re-recording was issued by Tadlow. Everything is here and thanks to actual collaboration with Basil Poledouris before his early passing, it is presented as he always wished. There are certain sections that may sound slightly different but knowing that that this is how it was meant to be heard, those sections soon merge with all that is know and loved about this score. If you love movie music, buy this before the price begins to climb as it most certainly will. If you do not have this issue, your collection is incomplete. It really is as simple as that. It's an essential purchase while it is available. There are very few soundtracks that MUST be part of a collection. This is one of the cornerstones and the sound and performance of the orchestra working under Nic Raine is superb.I loved this music the moment it first came out and its reputation is only ever enhanced. I am so glad that I managed to find this double CD and when I heard it again, that gladness turned to a huge smile of relief. As close to musical perfection as you'll ever find. Fantastic!

You wanna live forever?
An awesome soundtrack. The only thing I noticed is that the orgy track doesn't flow into the battle music like it does in the actual movie, it just ends. But I guess they were composed as separate tracks. The way they flow into each other in the movie was my favourite part. But even so it's still epic music 👍

The Definitive Album...
This is the album that everyone who loves the original Conan score by Basil Poledouris must own! I am not a collecter per se, but have purchased three previous versions of this score due to the unsated hunger in wanting to listen to previously unreleased tracks from this masterpiece...At long last, master tapes thought of as long lost were discovered, and this Intrada 'enthusiasts' album was made. This 3 CD album includes the missing gladiator pit fights track, music from the tavern scenes... and 'Las Cantigas De Santa Maria', the fiddle tune from Rexor's Tower and the snake pit. It even includes a few interesting alternative versions of tracks like the 'Anvil of Crom' and 'Orphans of Doom'.I must admit to not having listened to the third CD yet as I know it too well! If only they had included the live recordings from the Úbeda Film Music Festival concert instead....With both the original Milan and Varese Sarabande albums now hard to come by too, this represents the best CD-based presentation of the original orchestral recordings of the best fantasy film score ever made to date... and probably for all time. It's expensive, but well worth it!Basil Poledouris composed many great pieces of work in his, sadly, prematurely shortened, lifetime... but he was (and now always will be) best known for his score to Conan the Barbarian. And that's a good thing.

Superb, an essential score.
The score to Conan the Barbarian is widely hailed as one of the best ever put to film and I have to agree. This is an expanded version of the soundtrack with better sound quality than the regular Milan edition. If you love film music you owe it to yourself to track down a copy of this. Treat your ears.If you already own the Milan edition then be aware that this expanded version does not include Mako's prologue at the beginning ("It were the time when the oceans drank Atlantis...") so keep hold of that edition.Simply fantastic.

One of the best soundtracks ever produced.
Love the film, like the film or hate the film this is one of the best soundtracks ever produced. And this box set is a must have for fans of the film or for fans of classical music even.I've owned a few various releases of CTB OST but this is hands down the best version of the soundtrack available in my opinion!Highly recommended!

Great film score faster than original with extra tracks
I loved the original Conan the Barbarian soundtrack, but i always thought there should have been all the music from the film on the original soundtrack, this double cd has them all, cd 1 has 18 tracks and cd 2 has 9 tracks with 5 bonus tracks, including Chamber of mirrors from Conan the Destroyer.Anvil of Crom seems slightly faster than the original 1982 soundtrack, The gift of fury is not as good as the original.Cd 2 is confusing the track listing is incorrect, The Orgy fight is wrong it is a shorter version of the Anvil of Crom.Great film score and i would recommend if you want extra tracks, but i will still go back and play the original Conan 1982 soundtrackwhich has a better sound quality.

Dream come true
Finally the complete soundtrack. It is really great to have this box, but the new themes do not live up the expectations. But it is still great stuff. I still miss one track: the music during the climbing of the Set tower. The track "the tower of Set" does not contain that music. Pitty.

It also includes one of my favourite pieces of music from the film as a standalone ...
The ENTIRE score to Conan the Barbarian, tonnes of extra tracks, the original soundtrack release, AND a comprehensive booklet. It also includes one of my favourite pieces of music from the film as a standalone track, "The Kitchen".Get it while you can!

The definitive version
This is THE definitive version of the soundtrack for the ORIGINAL and BEST Conan movie. Just as critics said that the movie, while free and easy with the source material, got the spirit of Howard's writing and the titular character bang-on, the sweeping, majestic score from Basil Poledouris perfectly conveyed the swagger, strength, and high adventure of Conan and the brutal, dazzling landscapes of Hyboria. This movie stands as a testament that a good soundtrack can make an otherwise adequate movie great. Without this monumental score, the movie falls flat on its face and joins the ranks of the dime-a-dozen sword and sorcery movies from the 70's and 80's.As for this particular version, it's the one Conan fans have been waiting for. Every single musical note heard in the movie is here, as well as some other treats. Other editions of the soundtrack have come and gone. There was one available as an import, which had more material than the bare-bones soundtrack available here in the US, but it was hard to find, and still incomplete. For those who have been waiting, we finally have the Renaissance piece that played during the infiltration in the tower of Set. So complete is this album, you even have the odd, unsettling chanting going on in the background when Conan first meets Valeria. Also present are some discarded numbers that Poledouris resurrected for the "Conan the Destroyer" soundtrack. So, in essence, this album contains the complete score from both of Arnold's Conan movies. Again, every musical note you hear in Conan the Barbarian is on this album. As an added bonus, there are some outtakes and earlier versions of the score, some with different instrumentations. All this would be only a curiosity if the re-mastering were sub-par or drastically altered from the original. Typically, I find "re-mastered" to be code for "We wanted more money, so we changed the mix to be different from what you remember. It's compressed and inferior. But Hey! It's RE-MASTERED!" Not so here. Those audiophiles who noticed the low-fidelity of the original soundtrack recordings will be thrilled with the quality of this release. The lo-fi noise is gone, but not the richness of the instruments. Indeed, the quality of the sound is superb, and the re-mastering stays very true to the original. So while they have drastically improved the sound quality, they have not monkeyed with the mix just for the sake of change. This is a superb album, and without question the only soundtrack of Conan the Barbarian anyone needs.
